It has been a while since we’ve seen Jimmy Butler under the spotlight of sports media. Over the last few months, the veteran has been struggling with injuries that literally cost the Miami Heat a playoff run. From being looked at as a serious competitor over the last few years, Butler’s elite status in the league has slowly boiled down.
Recently, the Heat forward competed at a poker event that was held in Los Angeles. The Legends of the Felt event was live-streamed via Hustlers Casino. The roster of competitors featured Butler, Neymar Jr, Ryan Garcia, Chris Eubank Jr., Dan Bilzerian, Ninja, and Jon Vlogs.
NBA Fans react to Ryan Garcia’s awkward exchange with Jimmy Butler
Midway through the stream, Ryan Garcia had an awkward exchange with Jimmy Butler, who was seated right next to him at the poker table. Garcia told Butler that he was great with the Chicago Bulls to which the NBA star said, “Appreciate it, that was some good years.” Garcia went on to ask Butler which team he currently competed on, which was an odd question to ask since Butler has been with the Heat since 2019.
Butler replied by saying he was with the Heat and for some reason, Garcia immediately regretted asking him where he played. “Oh yeah, I don’t know even why I asked,” he said. NBA Fans began to troll the controversial boxer by saying, “Jimmy gonna make sure that he’s never seated next to him again at any events.” Another fan added, “Worst type of person to sit beside.”

Garcia was recently banned for a year from competing in the ring while being forced to forfeit the fight purse from the Devin Haney bout. While the boxer got trolled online, Jimmy Butler honed his poker skills and beat Neymar Jr. in a match to win $174,000. Butler and Neymar are exceptionally close friends and still went on to post about each other on their personal Instagram accounts.
Jimmy Butler seeks a two-year extension with the Heat
The tension between Jimmy Butler and the Heat has risen quite a lot over the last few months. Butler wasn’t available to compete during the first round of the playoffs which forced the Heat to be eliminated by the Boston Celtics. The former Eastern Conference Champion made a few comments that didn’t catch the interest of Pat Riley.

Lately, the 34-year-old has been linked to various trade rumors and sources firmly believe that his Miami days are over. It was said that Butler seeks a two-year extension despite already being under contract for the next two seasons while being owed over $100 million. Miami may not issue an extension since Butler will be 38 by the time he plays his final season on the contract. Riley himself stated that it’s a tough decision to make unless they’re dealing with someone who is constantly available to compete.
