Rob Pelinka discussed the thought process that went into the Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to select Bronny James with the #55 pick of the 2024 NBA Draft. The few NBA fans who might not be aware should know that Bronny is the eldest son of LeBron James and now has the opportunity to play alongside his father on the same team.
This has been a moment that many fans saw coming. After all, LeBron has been expressing his desire to play with Bronny for quite a while now. After selecting Bronny with their pick in the second round of the draft, Pelinka was interviewed and asked more about his thoughts on the Lakers’ choice. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Rob Pelinka speaks highly of Bronny James’ basketball skill
While it would certainly be easy to claim that the Lakers had an obvious reason to draft Bronny, it would be quite ignorant to overlook all his capabilities and uses as a basketball player. Pelinka kept the majority of his explanation centered around what Bronny could do for the team.
“I think he’s going to be a point-of-attack defender that can be disruptive of the way he guards other teams point guards. I think he can guard multiple positions and I think we’ve seen growth in his shooting…We really think he can turn into being an elite shotmaker. So a 3 and D player for sure…”
Will Bronny James be a starter for the Los Angeles Lakers?
At this point in time, many would assume that there is no way for the Lakers to start Bronny James. However, D’Angelo Russell and other stars on the team have underperformed consistently multiple times. If Bronny proves himself and grows rapidly, the amount of playing time that JJ Redick gives him might increase.
In any case, Bronny will also enter next season with a target on his back. He will be scrutinized more than his father ever was. Fans are left wondering what next season will look like for the upgraded Los Angeles Lakers.
