CM Punk made his return to WWE SmackDown on its latest episode, and it gave fans a memorable interaction between Punk and Paul Heyman. But, at that time, The Best in the World was probably not aware of the things to come, as he was assaulted viciously by Drew McIntyre in the later half of the episode.
On this week’s RAW, The Scottish Warrior announced that he’s quitting WWE, but to everyone’s surprise, he appeared on Friday’s show. McIntyre didn’t just appear on the blue brand; he made a strong statement by taking out CM Punk in the veteran wrestler’s hometown of Chicago. It all started when Punk was seen laid out on the floor while Drew stood tall and close to him during a backstage segment.
After that, the former World Heavyweight Champion carried his arch-rival on his shoulders, and took him towards the arena. As McIntyre did so, he had to face the anger of SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Despite Aldis’ best efforts, the attack left The Second City Saint full of blood, as he also seemed to have gotten injured once again.
After the segment, Drew even mocked CM Punk by posting a bloodied picture of Homelander from The Boys. For those who don’t know, the character got his revenge in Season 4 of the show, and posting this picture is probably Drew’s way of expressing his relief at taking out the Chicago-born star. With the rivalry getting more and more personal with each passing week, it’ll be interesting to see how it all comes to a conclusion.
Drew McIntyre’s actions have taken the WWE Universe by storm
As soon as fans witnessed the attack on CM Punk, they started sharing their reactions to the segment. In fact, Drew McIntyre’s actions have taken the WWE Universe by storm, and pointing out how the veteran probably deserved a lesson, a member of the pro wrestling community said, “Punk had it coming. Well done Drew.” (Via: X)
Sharing how this rivalry is extremely special, someone wrote, “This is the best fued in WWE today.” “Drew has really lost it hasn’t he?,” another fan said. “This is gonna be so good,” someone commented. “Revenge gets bloody,” an enthusiast of professional wrestling said while talking about the attack on Punk.
CM Punk could be off-TV for a while after the attack by Drew McIntyre
The WWE Universe in Chicago was left furious after the attack on the hometown hero on SmackDown. But, another thing that would disappoint them is that CM Punk could be off-TV for a while after the attack by Drew McIntyre. Punk was seen leaving the arena with his face covered in blood after the assault, and that’s why it’s likely that he’s going to be on a hiatus, before making a return.
In this way, the Stamford-based promotion could add more layers to this storyline, and it would make their actual match even more special for the audience. But, it all depends on how WWE sees this saga, and it’ll be extremely interesting to watch how this entertaining feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre fairs in the build-up to their highly-rumored match at SummerSlam 2024.
