The WWE Universe received one of its brightest stars in the form of Randy Orton. With his strength, personality and skills, Orton has created a unique identity for himself. Making his WWE debut in 2000, ‘The Viper’ has evolved over the years to become one of the biggest stars in the promotion.
One of the things that holds exclusive ownership to Randy Orton is his legendary move, RKO. The move is often known as the Cutter or, better yet, the Diamond Cutter, which was used by stars such as John Laurinaitis. But the move became popular by the name of RKO itself after Orton started bringing it to the ring. However, there is a deeper meaning associated with it.
Randy Orton’s real-life name is Randal Keith Orton. Joining the initials of this, RKO came into existence. Apart from this, many also consider that RKO stands for Randy Knockout. Over the years, ‘The Viper’ has brought out multiple variations over the years. With this surprise RKO, “RKO Outta Nowhere” has become the most-awaited moment on the fans’ wishlist.
Why did the RKO by Randy Orton receive backlash?
While the RKO is a much-awaited move by the 10-time WWE champion, its impact has taken a toll on the life of ‘The Apex Predator.’ RKO might have put the fans into a frenzy, but looking at it, Randy Orton has nothing but regret. Speaking to Fox 2 Now in St. Louis in 2022, Randy Orton spoke about the same. With his comments, it became evident that the move certainly had a dangerous impact in his life.
“I kind of wish I could go back in time and create a finishing move that didn’t entail me jumping up as high as I can and landing on my back,” he said. Being his iconic signature, the move put Randy Orton on his back multiple times. With his age building up, his body has started going stiff and as a result, he has been a victim to various serious injuries.

The outcome of his uncountable RKO deliveries over the years, took a toll on his health and Orton’s back gave up. As a result, he had to undergo surgery in November 2022. The surgery compelled him to miss the ring for almost a year and with his career-threatening injury, there are bleak chances to see him deliver back-to-back RKOs every time he steps up in the ring.
