Draymond Green continues to throw shade at the New York Knicks and is attempting to discredit their accomplishments so far in these playoffs. To those who might not be aware, Draymond is a veteran for the Golden State Warriors and is currently in his offseason after his team failed to qualify for the postseason and was eliminated in the play-in tournament.
Since Green owns a podcast and considers himself a voice for the new media, he engages in discussions regarding the current activities in the league sprinkled with his personal takes and opinions. During the most recent episode of his podcast, Draymond made some statements about the Knicks that have caught the attention of NBA fans. That said, a closer look at the situation is required.
Draymond Green compares the New York Knicks to the Hawks and Blazers
No two postseasons go the same for the majority of teams across the league. Most of the teams that make it to the playoffs are promptly eliminated by team with more experience and talent. Although the New York Knicks have established themselves as legitimate contenders in the Eastern Conference, Draymond Green claimed that their current postseason push is nothing more than a fluke.
In order to prove the legitimacy of his stance, Green brought up other teams from the past such as the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers. Although both the mentioned teams managed to make it all the way to the conference finals, they have been unable to repeat a similar feat.
Draymond Green compares the Knicks’ ‘fluke’ run to the Hawks and Blazers
“It’ll be probably another 15 years of misery and we’ll all sit around and laugh at Knicks fans with their delusion.”

“In the Eastern Conference, you can get to the conference finals al la Atlanta Hawks with like playing very mid teams and so that’s kinda what y’all are doing right now and I think what this is setting y’all up for is what happened to the Atlanta Hawks 3 years ago. They made the conference finals and never got back. Another team that did this was the Portland Trail Blazers years ago…”
Draymond continued, “They went to the conference finals and we swept them pretty much without Steph Curry…It was a fluke. That’s what the Knicks are setting y’all up for right now It’ll be probably another 15 years of misery and we’ll all sit around and laugh at Knicks fans with their delusion because that’s just what’s going to happen.”
Since Draymond initially picked Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers to defeat the New York Knicks, some fans inferred that he was simply speaking out of bias and that the Knicks are different from the Hawks or Blazers. Be that as it may, one must wonder what the ceiling is for the team in these playoffs.
How far can the Knicks go in this year’s playoffs?
Those who are following the ongoing playoffs will know that the Knicks currently hold a 2-0 series lead over the Indiana Pacers and are predicted to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. There, they will face the winner of the Celtics-Cavs series.
Given that the Celtics are favored to win the NBA championship this season, it would be unfair to claim that the Knicks have a reasonable chance of winning this series. Although it is certainly possible for them to do so and make the NBA Finals. Draymond clearly believes that they will be unable to do so. Fans are left wondering what the next few years will look like for the Knicks.
