SUMMARY
- Demetrious Johnson is one of greatest MMA fighters and has won belts at both UFC and ONE Championship.
- While his boxing skills are amazing, Johnson's submissions have also turned heads.
ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious Johnson may have only set foot in the Circle once last year, but he still works on his repertoire year round. “Mighty Mouse” is one of the most dominant World Champions in the history of MMA, and many of his submission victories go a long way in proving so.
While they make him a formidable opponent to grapple against under the lights, many people are quick to assume Johnson is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In actual fact, he’s not. But he also isn’t far from it. Johnson is one of the more decorated brown belts in the grappling world. He’s been a brown belt for over five years now. And while many yearn for their black belt, Johnson has always been about the journey and not the destination.

“The hardest thing to do is to just start. Once you start, everything becomes easier. BJJ is a culture. Yes, there’s a belt system from white to black and all the in-between, but there’s a culture where we want to help each other,” the MMA GOAT said.
Johnson does not have a return date set for his next MMA outing, but fans can be assured that he is continuing to put in the work as seen on his weekly Instagram stories.
Demetrious Johnson wins gold at IBJJF Masters Worlds
In the world of MMA, very few are as widely renowned as ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious Johnson.
He’s done it all in the all-encompassing sport, but even “Mighty Mouse” had a new experience in 2023. In September last year, Johnson competed in his first-ever Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament. He competed as a brown belt at the IBJJF Masters Worlds in the Master 2 featherweight division.

Unsurprisingly, “Mighty Mouse” emerged victorious after all six matches, with one armbar submission under his belt. The sweeping performance has elicited a response from ONE Championship fans and the grappling community alike, all of whom want to see the American megastar try his luck in the world’s largest martial arts organization’s submission grappling league. But whether or not he does has yet to be seen.
