ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey Musumeci has put to rest some of the
online debate about which martial arts style is the most complete.
“Darth Rigatoni” is one of the most recognizable names in the submission grappling world and has
fanned the flames himself at times while laying down the gauntlet to athletes from other martial arts styles
such as sambo.
The 27-year-old has triumphed on each occasion, however, and he holds a perfect 6-0 mark since joining
ONE Championship in 2022. Four of his victories have come by submission.
Musumeci was most recently seen demonstrating that world-class BJJ skills can lead him to triumph over
a larger opponent when he submitted Japanese lightweight MMA legend Shinya Aoki in an open-weight
grappling feature last month.
Mikey Musumeci breaks down what people complain about the most about martial arts
Mikey Musumeci took to Instagram on 7 November in response to comments that he had seen on the
platform about the limitations of each martial art.
The New Jersey native slapped down the critics in a lengthy, albeit light-hearted, post in what is likely a
one-off segment he called “Mikey rant of the day.”
“I’m so sick of reading people complain about things in each combat sport. Let’s break it down,” he
wrote.
“Jiu jitsu complaint – if you pulled guard in a fight you would get punched. Wrestling complaint – if you
take people down or turtle in jiu jitsu you would get choked out. Boxing Complaint – if you make your
base the way of a boxer you will get kicked and elbowed. Muay Thai complaint – your base gives
takedowns for an MMA fight. MMA complaint – you can’t stop a gun in a fight. Gun complaint – you
can’t stop a sniper angled at you from a distance. Sniper complaint – you can’t stop a nuclear bomb
targeted in your region.”
Musumeci has been trying his hand at other martial arts such as Muay Thai lately, as the BJJ black belt
builds a well-rounded game with hopes of making a potential MMA debut in the future.

Despite his deep roots in the grappling arts, the Evolve MMA representative expressed his appreciation
for all arts in a typically wholesome conclusion to his rant.
“Conclusion – each discipline has its pros and cons and should be respected for their beauties and not their
limitations,” he finished.
The post has been shared widely in the martial arts community by stars such as ONE Strawweight MMA
World Champion and former Musumeci foe Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks, once again demonstrating
why ONE’s flyweight submission grappling king is one of the most endearing characters on the roster.
