John McEnroe has always been the center of attention wherever he goes. The 64-year-old had highly uncontrollable emotions while he was a professional player. Even though the legend dominated the sport at one time, his outbursts and opinions have mostly sparked controversy. McEnroe has been a regular in the commentary box and is quick with responses, which unfortunately comes with a price to pay.
In the ongoing Wimbledon championships, the discussion was about the weather forecast and Ons Jabeur‘s preparation for the fourth round. Tim Henman, Tracy Austin, Clare Balding, and McEnroe were discussing the cricket terms as they shared their views on them. Balding mentioned, “Ons Jabeur is looking up at the sky above, wondering if it’s going to rain. “I think the answer is no. But it is overcast. It’s one of those days that would see a bit of swing on the ball in cricket.”
McEnroe went on to speak about swingers, as he pointed out whether it means the same here as back in the US or something different. He said, “Are the swingers the ones who don’t throw it as hard? Is that what swingers are? We have different definitions in the States!”
“We have different definitions in the States!” 👀
John McEnroe’s cheeky Wimbledon joke about cricket, weather and, er, swingers got him served a warning from Clare Balding 😂

Clare Balding went on to remind the former world number one that this is not the platform to talk about other things. Even though there was laughter, the discussion came back to the fourth round of clashes. Many fans did not support the comment, as the broadcast is watched by sports lovers of all ages.
John McEnroe controversy continues at Wimbledon
Even though McEnroe’s comments were taken lightly by a few of his loyal fans, his comments on Nicolas Jerry were seen in a bad light. McEnroe, while commenting on the match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jerry, said that the sporting world has yet to know Jarry but will get to know him. The Chilean player is currently ranked 28th in the world and has won two clay titles this season.
The comment was not taken lightly, as fans began to notice how underprepared the former player was before the match. John Millman showed his frustration in a comment on Twitter he said, “How can a commentator not know the tennis players, especially when they have had their best-ever season?”
How a commentator can say “we don’t know Jarry but we’ll get to know him” is beyond ridiculous. 87 million people play tennis worldwide and this guy is the 28th best at it currently. #Wimbledon

There is no argument over his style of play or the influence he has had on the sport. But his commentary has surely been noticed several times. The ability to control what you say in public is difficult for some. We will be seeing more of McEnroe and his unpredictable character at Wimbledon for a few more days.
