Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are one of the most adorable couples in the sports world. The Olympic gymnast and the NFL safety have been married since April 2023, after getting engaged in February 2022. But how did their love story begin? It turns out that Biles was the one who initiated their relationship by sliding into Owens’ DMs on a dating app.
Biles and Owens met on Raya, an exclusive dating app for celebrities and influencers, in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In an interview with WSJ Magazine, Biles said, “He would say I slid into his DMs.”

Biles was attracted to Owens’ profile and decided to say hi. “I saw him and I was like, ‘Oh, he’s pretty cute,’ so I said hi … and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later,” Biles told the Wall Street Journal.
Their relationship developed slowly until Biles’ sister decided to accelerate things by inviting Owens to join them on their trip to a lake house. After that, the two started spending more time together, and the pandemic gave them the opportunity to really get to know each other.
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens said ‘I Do’ in a cozy city hall wedding
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are officially husband and wife. The Olympic gymnast and the NFL player exchanged vows in a cozy City Hall ceremony in Texas, a little over a year after they got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2022. The couple shared the happy news on their Instagram accounts, along with some beautiful photos of their special day.
Biles looked stunning in a white layered dress, while Owens wore a beige suit with white loafers. In one picture, Owens is raising his fist in the air in celebration, while Biles gracefully smiles at him. “I do” and “officially Owens,” Biles captioned her post, adding a ring emoji. Owens commented, “Wifey got a great ring to it. First day of forever.”
The wedding ceremony was very intimate, with only four people present: Biles, Owens, the judge, and the photographer. The couple wanted to keep their wedding low-key and personal, as they had already planned a second wedding celebration in Mexico with their friends and family.
They made their relationship Instagram-official in August 2020, with Biles posting a sweet photo of them with the caption “It’s just us.” Since then, they have been sharing adorable snaps of their romance, including PDA-filled pics and heartfelt messages about each other. They also support each other’s careers, with Biles cheering for Owens at his games and Jonathan Owens being by Biles’ side during her historic Olympic performance in Tokyo.
