SUMMARY
- Super Bowl LVIII was exhilarating event where Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers put up an amazing match.
- It became only the second Super Bowl event to go into overtime.
The highly-anticipated Super Bowl LVIII has finally kicked off at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. After weeks of build-up, the Kansas City Chiefs are taking on the San Francisco 49ers in the championship game. Several celebrities have made their way to watch the game, including Taylor Swift. However, despite the hype, the attendance for the Super Bowl LVIII has been disappointing.
This is the first time that the city of Las Vegas is hosting the biggest football game of the year. However, the attendance for the game isn’t even close to last year’s Super Bowl. According to reports from NBC, the official attendance for the Super Bowl LVIII is only 61,629. To put things into context, the Super Bowl LVII had an official attendance of 67,827.
This is the smallest announced attendance in Super Bowl history, except for pandemic season.
1. 61,629, SB LVIII (Vegas, ‘24)
2. 61,946, SB I (LA, ’67)
3. 62,417, SB LIV (Miami, ’20)
4. 63,130, SB XXVI (Minn., ’92)
5. 67,603, SB XXXVII (San Diego, ’03)— Ben Fischer (@BenFischerSBJ) February 12, 2024
One of the primary reasons for the low numbers is the extremely costly tickets. As per several reports, the average resale prices of the tickets have gone as high as $12,000. Moreover, with the Allegiant Stadium’s capacity being 65,000, the total available tickets were sold at rather high prices. Interestingly, the Super Bowl LVIII’s attendance is the lowest announced attendance for any non-pandemic Super Bowl.
Nevertheless, this hasn’t come in the way of the A-lister celebrities who have made their way to the Allegiant Stadium today. Besides Taylor Swift who is supporting her boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, other big names like Blake Lively, Ice Spice, Jay Z, Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Hailey Beiber, Kendall Jenner, and so on are in attendance for the Super Bowl game.
Super Bowl LVIII doesn’t even come close to the highest-attended Super Bowl of all time
Meanwhile, the Super Bowl LVIII doesn’t even come close to the highest-attended Super Bowl in NFL history. As already aforementioned, the 2024 Super Bowl has the lowest attendance for any non-pandemic Super Bowl. The highest-attended Super Bowl to date remains the Super Bowl XIV in 1980. The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Los Angeles Rams at the Rose Bowl stadium with 103,985 people in attendance.

Interestingly, the Rose Bowl stadium has been the home to four of the five highest-attended Super Bowls of all time. In 2011, the Super Bowl XLV was hosted at the Cowboys Stadium. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in a historic victory. While around 15,000 seats were installed for the championship game, the official attendance, 103,219, fell short of around 1000 people due to logistical and legal issues.
