The New York Giants have pulled off a trade in NFL style, acquiring safety Isaiah Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals on August 24. The deal is set pending Simmons passing a physical. At 6 ft 4 in and 238 lbs, Simmons is a versatile powerhouse, with a perfect attendance record, featuring 50 regular season games played and 37 starts.
In his last season, he hit career highs with 4.0 sacks, two interceptions, five tackles for loss, and seven passes defended. The Cardinals selected him as the eighth overall pick. Under GM Monti Ossenfort, the Cardinals didn’t extend Simmons’ fifth-year option, making him a free agent after the season.
According to a recent report by Dov Kleiman, the Giants need to choose where to put Simmons. He played as a linebacker and safety, but some think he’s best as an edge player.

After the trade was confirmed, a fan thought the Giants got an amazing deal and said, “Giants got a steal! Hate it tbh lol”. Another fan suggests this shows why you should always pick a player for a specific position. “Prime example why you should never draft a player without a clear position. If you’re truly great, you will have a clear position you play on the field”.
Some were also stunned by this incredible deal, saying, “oh that’s a STEAL”. A fan said, NYG Super Bowl on the way, “OH WE IN ACTION BABY NYG SUPER BOWL INCOMING”. A fan expressed, that the Cardinals are showing what not to do when rebuilding their team: “Cardinals are laying a great road map for how not to rebuild your roster”.
When will Isaiah Simmons debut in the Giants uniform?
As reported by ‘Gaints‘ linebacker Simmons underwent a position shift to safety during this offseason. This move comes after 3 years as LB, he racked up 258 tackles, 11 QB hits, 7.5 sacks, and 4 interceptions in 50 games.
Now with the Giants, Simmons is geared up to compete in the defensive scheme of coordinator Wink Martindale. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that New York exchanged a seventh-round pick for the Cardinals’ No. 8 pick from the 2020 NFL draft.
Shortly after sealing the trade, Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll revealed their plan to unleash Simmons in various defensive roles. However, the exact details of how the Giants intend to deploy Simmons remain uncertain.
However, the exact timing of Simmons’ debut with the New York Giants remains uncertain since the regular season is yet to kick off. Nonetheless, it’s probable that he’ll participate in the Giants’ remaining preseason matches, scheduled for August 26 against the New York Jets.
On September 10, the Giants will kick off their regular season, squaring off against the Dallas Cowboys. It will be interesting to see how the Giants decide to utilize their new weapon, Isaiah Simmons.
