Everyone was looking at the New York Jets as a strong team after Aaron Rodgers joined them. However, the team’s aspirations broke down after the star quarterback tore his Achilles during the game in Week 1. Though the Jets won the match by 22-16, they lost Rodgers for the whole season. Now, reports suggest that Kirk Cousins might be replacing the veteran star.
Mike Tannenbaum, the former General Manager of the Jets, recently made a surprising suggestion. Recently, Tannenbaum appeared on ESPN’s show ‘Get UP’. There, the GM mentioned that Kirk Cousins “makes a ton of sense” for the New York Jets. He mentioned that the team should consider trading the star quarterback to replace the injured Aaron Rodgers.

It’s worth noting that the team has been getting a lot of offers from NFL quarterbacks after Aaron Rodgers’ injury. Recently, reports suggested that Colin Kaepernick was also interested in joining the Jets. As per an NFL reporter, the quarterback’s agent reached out to the team to inform them about Kaepernick’s interest in the Jets. However, the team reportedly declined the offer of the former 49ers star.
Cousins has had a terrific start this NFL season. The 35-year-old has recorded 6 TDs and 1 interception for 708 yards in his 2 games this season. However, he hasn’t been able to lead his team to even one victory as the Vikings are 0-2. As for the Jets, they are 1-1, as they won against the Bills, despite losing Aaron Rodgers.
Just like others, Kirk Cousins might also fail at times, but he surely is an exceptional quarterback. If the Jets decide to trade Cousins, he might be able to compensate for the skills and experience of Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers to return to the New York Jets before the playoffs?
Though there has been news of Kirk Cousins joining the Jets, there are some other rumors as well. NFL’s Ian Rapoport recently shared a post on X mentioning that Aaron Rodgers might return to the team. As per reports, the star player will go through the “speed bridge” procedure for early recovery. Dr. Neal Attrache, a popular orthopedic surgeon, will reportedly put an internal brace on the quarterback’s Achilles.
“Sources say renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache and his team performed a procedure to place an internal brace—called an Achilles ‘speed bridge’—on Rodgers’ fully torn left Achilles… While there are no guarantees, the speed bridge protects the repair and opens up the possibility of an earlier return,” Rapoport wrote.

Some reports even claimed that Aaron Rodgers might take platelet-rich plasma injections from Dr. Attrache. It’s worth noting that Lakers star Kobe Bryant also did the same back in 2013. Though there’s no guarantee, if things work out, the veteran star might return to play before the playoffs. In case the Jets make it to the playoffs with Zach Wilson, Rodgers’ return would be great for them.
The New York Jets must be praying for Aaron Rodgers to recover as soon as possible. However, coach Robert Saleh has made it clear that he’s happy with Wilson being their quarterback in Rodgers’ absence. It’ll be interesting to see whether the news of the former Green Bay Packers star’s early return turns out to be true or not.
