On July 27th during an 11-vs-11 drill, Quarterback Joe Burrow was carted off the field in practice. Head Coach Zac Taylor later confirmed that Burrow had sustained a calf injury and would be sidelined for “several weeks” to recover.
Just a couple of days later, the quarterback was spotted in the locker room, but he needed a crutch and a scooter to move around. It has been nearly four weeks now, with only 14 days remaining until the start of the NFL regular season.
The update from Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Zac Taylor indicates that the quarterback’s recovery is progressing well, based on his observation.
In the preseason games, Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning have taken over the QB position in place of Burrow, playing against the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons.
This week at a press conference, HC Taylor exclaimed, “This one is in the calf, and he [Burrow] looks great. Just physically and walking around, he looks probably as good as he’s ever looked at this point. So that’s a positive and we’ll just go from there.”
There’s a possibility that Burrow might participate in the game against the Washington Commanders. However, it is not confirmed yet.
The Bengals are scheduled to have their regular NFL game in Week 1. The game will take place just two days after the kickoff between Patrick Mahomes‘ Kansas City and the Detroit Lions. The Bengals will face the Browns, though it remains uncertain if Burrow will make it to the squad.
Burrows must recover fully to play in the Week One opener against Cleveland. Nonetheless, most reports suggest that things are progressing well for both Burrow and the Bengals.
