The NFL world has been left baffled by the recent news involving Damar Hamlin. For those who don’t know, the 24-year-old is a safety for the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. A few hours ago, he collapsed on the field when playing against the Cincinnati Bengals. It looked like it happened after a tackle, and he was taken to the hospital 30 minutes later.

Hamlin played college football for the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh Panthers). The Bills then drafted him in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, as the 212th pick. He wasn’t a starter for the team until a few months ago. Micah Hyde’s neck injury led the Bills head coach Sean McDermott to promote Damar to the starting roster.
Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals
On Monday, Damar tackled the Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins. Right after the tackle, Hamlin collapsed on the field before he could even take a couple of steps. It was an incident that the other players did not understand, mainly because it was not clear what happened to him. A while later, the Bills confirmed in a tweet that he had suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

In 2020, Damar Hamlin started a GoFundMe to purchase toys for children in his community. The initial goal was $2,500.

Damar Hamlin was a player we can’t forget, especially because of what he did off the field. For context, he set up a GoFundMe page in 2020. The purpose of the page was to organize toy drives for children in need. Before the incident took place, the page had only garnered about $70,000 in donations. However, after his collapse, thousands of fans donated and helped the page accumulate more than $3 million!
It is wholesome to see that fans are in support of the Bills star, especially when they need it. As he once claimed, “Life is bigger than football.” He said this when his Bills teammate Dane Jackson suffered an injury. We hope that Hamlin makes a speedy recovery soon and gets back to the field in no time.
