As the NFL is going on, many teams have already made some important moves. Recently, there have been rumors about the New England Patriots firing their head coach Bill Belichick. However, it seems like there’s finally a twist in the story. That’s because Belichick has finally broken his silence on the much-speculated topic.
The New England Patriots have been struggling to perform well ever since Tom Brady left the team. Even this season, the team has a terrible 2-9 record in their 11 games. Considering this, rumors were doing rounds that the team might soon fire Bill Belichick. After that, reports suggested that the 71-year-old HC won’t return in 2024.
“Yeah that’s ridiculous”

Due to all these rumors, everyone was already guessing which team the HC might join next. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky even claimed that Bill Belichick already has a team to join next. However, Belichick has finally rubbished all these rumors. He recently appeared on WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show where he called Orlovsky’s claims “ridiculous”.
“Yeah, that’s ridiculous… Just trying to do the best job that I can right now. Obviously, I need to do better… I don’t worry about what everyone else is saying… I’ve heard good, I’ve heard bad. It doesn’t matter. I don’t really care,” he said.
It’s obvious that the Patriots need to work on their shortcomings. Their offense is reportedly the second worst this season, averaging only 13.5 and their special team is struggling as well. However, Bill Belichick has made it clear that he’s not going anywhere for now and will work on the team’s betterment.
The New England Patriots have been suffering under Bill Belichick after Tom Brady
Born in April 1952, Bill Belichick joined the Patriots as their assistant head coach in 1996. After that, he went to the New York Jets and rejoined the Patriots in 2000, this time as a head coach. It was the same year when NFL legend Tom Brady entered the team. Together, the duo led the team to great heights.
After the Tuck Rule game, there was nothing stopping Brady and the Patriots. Under Belichick’s coaching, the star QB led the team to a 136-39 record during their 20 years together. The team played in 9 Super Bowls during that period and won 6 out of them. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady helped the Patriots win 219 matches together.
However, after the 46-year-old QB left the team in 2020, the Patriots have been struggling a lot. Bill Belichick has managed to have a poor 82-98 record since then with no AFC appearance. The Tennessee-born HC’s bad performance without Brady isn’t going well with fans and critics. Former NFL player Warren Sapp even said that Belichick “owes” his success to Brady.
Considering the Patriots’ poor form, Bill Belichick needs to pay a lot of attention to the team. Now, it’ll be interesting to see till when he’ll be there with the team as their head coach.
