The show that was produced by Roc Nation drew around 104 million views and was nominated for four Prime Time Emmy nominations. Even the critical acclaim and huge viewership numbers weren’t enough for Jennifer Lopez who hated the show as per the Netflix documentary, Halftime.

Lopez talked about the Super Bowl halftime show in the documentary. She revealed to her music director: “This is the worst idea in the world to have two people do the Super Bowl.” The Grammy Award winner explained that co-headlining the event came with time constraints that hampered the overall performance of both the artists. The show gave six minutes to both the artists and 30 seconds of a song.
Jennifer Lopez was angry about the idea that she had to compromise her dancing to convey her singing moments due to time constraints. The Latin music community was disappointed by the fact that two of the biggest stars of their music industry had to share the show, unlike other acts that had performed before them.
There was also a tussle between the NFL and the singer for a portion of the show where some of the kids were in cages. The NFL wanted to pull the plug on the cages, but the Latin singer stood strong and refused to pull them to continue with her artistic vision for her performance with Shakira.
FCC received complaints from viewers about the halftime show of Super Bowl LIV
While the overall reception of the halftime show of Super Bowl LIV was positive. There was some pushback from some viewers who complained to the Federal Communications Commission. As per reports, the FCC got around 1,312 complaints about the performance of J-Lo and Shakira.
The general argument from the complaints was the show wasn’t appropriate for the kids, who were a major section of the viewership. The skimpy outfits and the provocative dance moves didn’t go down well with the parents. One of the complaints labeled the show as ‘Soft P*rn’ and threatened to boycott the NFL.

While some of these complaints may be over the top. However, they certainly voiced a section of the fan base who were concerned by the influence of the performances in these shows, who performed in front of a nationwide audience.
The same responsibility will now fall on Usher, who is set to perform as the solo headliner for the halftime show of the Super Bowl LVIII. The eight-time Grammy Award winner will have all eyes on him when he takes center stage at Allegiant Stadium, Paradise, Nevada on February 11, 2024.
