As the NFL regular season is on, football fans get to see a lot of action on the field. However, there are many other things that entertain the fans along with the matches. Among all, one thing that catches everyone’s attention is the celebration dances of players. There are many players who express their emotions through their dance moves and Justin Jefferson is one of them.
The wide receiver’s Griddy dance has been grabbing everyone’s attention ever since his debut. Along with Justin Jefferson, there are other players as well who do the Griddy dance now after a touchdown. Some of them are Ja’Marr Chase, Kirk Cousins, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire. In 2020, it was Jefferson who performed the Griddy dance for the first time in the NFL.

However, it’s worth noting that the WR didn’t create the dance himself, but has learned it. As per reports, the Griddy dance originated at Landry Walker High School. It was Louisiana’s Allen “Griddy” Davis who created the Griddy dance in 2018 and named it after his nickname. It was reportedly the Nae Nae dance (a type of hip-hop) that inspired Davis to create the dance.
Allen Davis showed the dance to his friend and Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase. After joining LSU, Chase then taught the dance to his teammate Justin Jefferson. The two then showed the dance to the whole LSU locker room, and that’s how it spread.
It’s worth noting that Justin Jefferson did the Griddy dance for the first time on the national stage in 2019. He did it after recording a touchdown against the Texas Longhorns. Ever since then, the dance has become a trend in the NFL.
A look at the famous Griddy dance celebration of Justin Jefferson
After Allen Davis created the Griddy dance, it went viral on TikTok and many people tried to copy it. However, Justin Jefferson brought it all the way to the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings star begins the Griddy dance every time he records a touchdown. During the dance, he taps both of his heels alternatively and swings his arms back and forth.
The dance of the 3-time Pro Bowl got so popular that the Fortnite video game included it in 2021. The game got the new “The Griddy” celebration which was a big thing for Justin Jefferson. As per ESPN’s reporter Adam Schefter, the WR became the first NFL star to get featured in Fortnite.

Recently, Jefferson and Allen Davis came up with new versions of the Griddy dance. The Vikings shared a video in which the wide receiver and Davis were performing the new versions. They introduced “The Jet Griddy”, “The Handoff Griddy”, “The Monopoly Griddy”, “The Reverse Griddy”, and “The LeBron Griddy”.
“We bringing a new version of the Griddy this year. It’s about to be a Griddy season. I want the whole stadium, worldwide to get up and Griddy with me when I get in that end zone,” the WR said in the video.
It seems like this NFL season, fans will get to witness many more types of the Griddy dance. So, along with his performance, people must be waiting for Justin Jefferson to do the dance as well.
