WWE legend Edge wrestled his last match against Sheamus on the August 18 episode of SmackDown. Later, it was also confirmed that this was the final match in The Rated-R Superstar’s current contract with the Triple H-led promotion, and since then, not much has been known about his pro wrestling future.
Among all the speculations around his in-ring future, the one that’s probably the most noteworthy is that Edge could be leaving WWE for AEW. Even though it hasn’t been confirmed by either of the parties, it seems that the Stamford-based promotion doesn’t want this to happen.
In probably their final move to try to keep The Rated-R Superstar with them, WWE recently made a desperate last attempt to ensure he doesn’t leave for AEW. This happened on the September 8 episode of SmackDown, as The Ultimate Opportunist was featured in the latest intro video for the blue brand.

As the Hall of Famer’s contract was set to expire in September, WWE featuring him in the intro video has raised a lot of questions about his association with the Stamford-based promotion. Fans have been speculating if both parties have come to an agreement or if Edge has already extended his contract.
In the midst of such speculations, it’s been confirmed that Edge’s appearance in SmackDown’s intro video wasn’t a sign of him returning to WWE. It was probably done with the intention of creating a buzz about his future. Looking at how fans’ have been talking about the intro in large numbers, it seems that the aim of adding the HOF to the intro has been completed.
Is Edge really thinking about a potential shift to AEW?
Edge returning to the Stamford-based promotion might be the thing that WWE fans want, but looking at the current situation, it doesn’t seem like a possibility. It has been reported that even talents within the Triple H-led promotion feel that The Rated-R Superstar is going to Tony Khan’s company.
While everyone has been talking about a potential move to All Elite Wrestling, The Ultimate Opportunist previously revealed that he isn’t really sure about his in-ring future. During a conversation with ET Canada, the Hall of Famer said, “Here’s what I can honestly say, and this isn’t the answer that everybody’s going to want: I truly don’t know.”
Edge later revealed that he even has a contract extension offer from the Triple H-led promotion, but he doesn’t really know what to do. With the performer not being sure about his future with WWE, a move to All Elite Wrestling could be on the cards for the legendary pro wrestler.
Even though the Hall of Famer hasn’t really talked about it in public, he might be thinking about ending his career at the Jacksonville-based promotion. If he doesn’t really think about leaving WWE for AEW, there are a lot of reasons why he should. Edge going All Elite could be the biggest signing for Tony Khan’s company, so it remains to be seen if it’ll really become a reality in the near future.
