Klay Thompson has been widely discussed around the league lately. The superstar has been struggling to be himself on the court which has duly affected the Golden State Warriors’ momentum as well. It isn’t a secret that the Warriors have an ageing core lineup that needs a boost or perhaps and change. But it isn’t clear if the Warriors want to make significant changes at the moment.

Right now, GSW is on a horrible start to the season. They’re 11th in the Western Conference with a record of 9 wins and 11 losses. They aren’t a play-in tournament-worthy team based on their recent performances. Chances are they might face numerous other issues before the end of the regular season. There is just enough time for the Warriors to decide whether they want to utilize the market right now to make chances. However, these changes ought to bring an immediate turnaround.
Are the Warriors interested in trading Klay Thompson?
NBA expert Zach Lowe recently shared some inside information on Klay Thompson’s future with the Warriors. While most of us believe that his stint with them is coming to an end, this is far from the truth. Lowe said, “I’ve had four executives from other teams in the last 72 hours ask me, just in spitball and stuff, ‘Would they ever trade Klay Thompson?’ And the reason they’re asking is because teams see somewhat of an opportunity there in terms of, ‘Can we get involved in a deal?”
He added, “Would they have to attach an asset to trade Klay Thompson if they want to get meaningful win-now talent with multiple years left on their contract in exchange for Klay Thompson?’ To be clear, the Warriors do not want to trade Klay Thompson. They have no desire to do it. I would bet heavily against it ever happening.” This isn’t certainly what teams interested in the 5x NBA All-Star want to hear. But it isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the Warriors believe in their legendary trio.
Klay Thompson is slowly breaking out of his slump
Klay Thompson has been averaging some of his worst numbers lately. He’s been putting in 15.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, which happened to be his second-worst season and first since his rookie year. He’s also shooting a career-worst 40.6% from the field and 36.1% from deep. Thompson was far better last season as he averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He also led the league in three-pointers made last season with 301 made attempts.

This season, Klay is far from the top. However, things are slowly starting to change as over the last few games, the 33-year-old has scored consistently. He has averaged 19.5 points per game in his last six appearances while having a consistent spike in shooting percentages as well. There is still time before the Warriors have to start pushing. But if all they have is Stephen Curry to rely on, they have some serious thinking to do.
