American tennis player Alex Michelsen is one of the most promising players to come out of the ATP Next Gen Finals. The young player has been steadily climbing up the ranks as he continues to prove his mettle on the tour. With Alex setting the tennis scene on fire, there is a buzz among fans as well. Naturally, there is a growing interest in his life and in his parents, who encourage him at every turn.
As of August 28th, Alex has achieved his best-ever ATP singles ranking of 127. In doubles, he holds a rank of 414. While he has yet to break into the top 100, he has shown his potential. So far in his budding career, the most memorable moment for him is his Grand Slam debut at the US Open in 2022.
Michelsen won his first ITF tournament in East Lansing last year as well. He even qualified to play at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells earlier this year. The teen made his much-awaited ATP debut against Chris Eubanks at the Mallorca Championships.

While Alex has quickly become the talk of the tennis world, he comes from a family of athletes. Today, we delve deeper into his life.
Who are Alex Michelsen’s parents?
Both his parents, Erik and Sondra Michelsen, played tennis in college. Sondra played for San Diego State and was a solid baseline player. The teen credits his mother for teaching him this skill.
Alex’s father, Erik, played at Redlands University in California. Erik loved playing volleys and serves and would often go up to the net. Young Michelsen feels he has learned this skill from his father.
With both his parents being former tennis players, it is not surprising that Alex has picked up their love for the sport. His parents encouraged him to grow and develop as a player and person, and he is making them proud.
Alex also has an older brother named Jake Michelsen. Like Alex, Jake is also athletically gifted and has many different interests, including swimming and hiking.
Alex Michelsen has announced his arrival at the Next Gen ATP Finals, although his place in the semifinals hangs in the balance. Michelsen has a long way to go, but with his parents and brother by his side, he can make his dreams come true.
Michelsen was not always interested in tennis
At his core, Alex is a competitor, even if he did not start out that way. Now, however, he tries his hardest to play to the best of his abilities.
Alex tried to follow in his brother’s footsteps by trying his hand at swimming. He quickly realized that it was not meant for him. Michelsen also played baseball and soccer. He had a natural baseball talent too. However, when it came to choosing a sport, he went with tennis.
“I chose tennis. And I find it way more enjoyable than most sports. I’m a very competitive person. I like it being on me when I win or lose,” said Michelsen (via ATP Tour).
Alex Michelsen is an exciting talent and brings a lot to the court when he is playing. He still has a long road ahead of him, but he is hopeful he can achieve what he set out to do. And be the best at it too.
