Conor McGregor remains one of the biggest names in the sport of MMA. Despite his brutal leg break in 2021, the Irishman has managed to be a relevant name in the sport. Recently, Conor proved to fans that he is well and truly preparing to make his return.
Previously, Conor was paired alongside Michael Chandler for Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. Following the conclusion of the show, a fight announcement was expected. Initially, many believed that Conor would not be making his return any time soon. However, the 35-year-old took to social media to tease his upcoming fight before the end of the year.

Although many were hesitant about the legitimacy of the leak, McGregor has since followed it up with some brand-new training footage. As such, Conor was recently spotted sparring UFC welterweight Ian Garry at SBG Ireland. Whilst we have seen Conor sparring recently, it was mostly against TUF fighters and people at his gym.
Notably, Ian Garry and Conor share a close relationship. According to the Irish prospect, he has looked up to Conor since he was very young and has closely followed his journey. Having had a breakout year, Garry has found himself quickly riding up the welterweight rankings. Thus, for Conor to test his mettle against such a solid contender makes sense considering his wish to fight at 170 lbs.
Fans do not want to see Conor McGregor fight at 170 lbs
As for the sparring session itself, neither fighter looked to be going too hard. Considering that it was likely a warmup and not a full-blown contact spar, both fighters seemed to take the session lightly. However, what was noticeable for fans was how Garry towered over McGregor. For someone who wished to fight in the same division as the 25-year-old, it was not a good look for ‘The Notorious One‘.
As such, people took to social media to share their thoughts on the matter. For the most part, a lot of people are in agreeance that Conor looks much much smaller than Garry. Having stated that he wants to see out his career at 170 lbs and maybe fight at 185 lbs, it makes it a serious problem for McGregor. With that said, let’s take a look at some of the fan comments from the video.
Damn Garry is an entire head taller than McGregor.

Yeah Conor’s probably too small for 170. Was this recent?

Conor too small… he can’t compete at 170

All things considered, Conor likely will not need to worry about size for his fight against Michael Chandler. Seeing that the Irishman wants to fight Nate Diaz and Justin Gaethje in the future, it is entirely possible that size may not be a factor.
However, seeing the recent activity from McGregor, it seems as though he is excited to make his return to fighting. Will McGregor fight before the end of the year and will the UFC 296 rumors come true? Only time will tell.
