In the third episode of the infamous, ‘Mind the Game’ podcast, James and JJ Redick talked about an array of topics from evolving with the game of basketball to their learnings from their high school career. Amidst this, Redick asked the Lakers star if he and how he could tell that the young player would be able to stay in the league for a longer time.
To this, he responded by saying, “Coaches and veterans being able to get on them and there’s no snickering, there’s no backtalk.” James continued to talk about how they look like they are seeing how much they can take and absorbing everything. “That’s when you know, oh he’s going to be in this league for a long time,” he concluded his response and the secret message for the young and upcoming players.

LeBron James entered the league at just the age of 18 and is currently the oldest active player in the league. So on when it comes to advice for the younger generation who is looking for a career in the NBA, James is a highly trustable player as he has walked down a similar path that they would. He said, “The cars and the jewelry and all the other s*** don’t matter, means absolutely nothing, I see a lot of these young kids, they get so unfocused about stuff that is so material that they can lose their focus.” In addition to this, the Lakers star suggested that they should keep the focus on the basketball game and everything else will take care of itself.
King James believes veterans should hold the utmost respect in basketball
In the same interview, LeBron James expressed his thoughts about how veteran players should not be disrespected at any cost. He started by suggesting that the upcoming NBA players should learn the history and respect the ones that came before them. “Even when they do disrespect you, it’s absolutely okay. Know who paved the way,” James added.
Furthermore, the 4x NBA Champion revealed one thing that the game gods do. “Show up to work, be ready to work. If you are on time, you are late,” James stated. Further, he said that all the work should be put into the game and the game would give back when one does this. “That’s what the game gods do,” the billionaire basketball player stated at the end.
