SUMMARY
- Rudy Gobert leads an NBA player poll for most overrated star in the league.
- Shaquille O'Neal has been calling Gobert overrated for several years.
It appears as if the majority of current-day NBA stars agree with Shaquille O’Neal regarding his assessment of Rudy Gobert. To those who do not know, Gobert is an NBA center currently playing alongside Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. On the other hand, Shaq is a former star that needs no introduction. He won 4 titles throughout his career and is considered to be the most dominant player in the history of the league.
Recent reports reveal that active stars have voted for Rudy Gobert as the most overrated player currently in the NBA. Since this is something that Shaquille O’Neal has been saying for years, a closer look is undoubtedly required.
Why have NBA stars voted Rudy Gobert in as the most overrated player?
The term overrated is quite vague and not easy to comprehend. A player can be considered as overrated when they have been acknowledged by NBA experts and media when they might not truly be worthy of the attention and praise. A recent poll consisting of players across the league concluded that they believed the Timberwolves star to be more overrated than any other active player.

Since Rudy Gobert has won 3 Defensive Player of the Year awards so far in his career and is expected to win his 4th this season, one can certainly claim that he has been valued highly. It would be unfair to claim that he is completely undeserving of these accolades since he is one of the elite rebounds and shot blockers in the NBA. Moreover, he helped lead the Timberwolves to hold one of the best records in the West this season.
More on Shaquille O’Neal’s beef with Gobert
There was a point in time when Gobert was considered to be the best center in the NBA. Since Shaq held this very same title during his career, many comparisons between the two emerged and gained momentum on social media. Shaq fundamentally dismissed these comparisons by claiming that he would crush Gobert in a 1v1 matchup. Moreover, he went on to opine that Rudy was overrated and did not deserve much attention.
