SUMMARY
- Cody Rhodes was a part of the main event match on the WWE Draft 2024 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
- The American Nightmare won the match, but the WWE Universe absolutely hated one of his moves from the bout.
WWE continued its journey on the path of a brand new era on the latest episode of SmackDown as the 2024 Draft began on Friday’s show. Alongside shenanigans of the special event, another thing that the professional wrestling fans had a lot of interest in was the presence of The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes.
In the initial phase of Friday Night SmackDown, the fan-favorite star was booked to face Carmelo Hayes in the main event of the show, and they had a spectacular match. Both performers gave it their all in the ring to satisfy the audience through their in-ring work. But fans absolutely hated one Cody Rhodes move from the 2-hour-long weekly show.
It happened when both Rhodes and Carmelo ran towards opposite sides of the ropes, and the Undisputed Champion was probably supposed to hit a Cody Cutter in the air. But the timing of their jump didn’t match, and the second-generation superstar ended up falling hard on his shoulder.

Even though The American Nightmare was eventually able to come out victorious from the match, the way he was trying to hold his shoulder made fans wonder if he got injured. That’s the major reason why people are not happy with the move.
WWE Universe is scared after Cody Rhodes’ botched move on SmackDown
After witnessing Cody Rhodes’ botched move on SmackDown, the WWE Universe has been left scared, and they’ve been sharing their reactions to the spot. Sharing how it could have been worse, someone from the audience wrote, “Seriously that could have been a disaster.” (Via: X)
Pointing out that The American Nightmare might have injured himself during the match on SmackDown, a pro wrestling community member said, “That was a bad bump, might be legit hurt.” “Was this suppose to happen idk I’m so scared,” a fan commented while asking if it was a planned spot or a botch.
Cody Rhodes is set to defend his title at WWE Backlash
As The American Nightmare‘s botched attempt to hit Cody Cutter during the main event of SmackDown grabbed the attention of the audience, they were left worried. A major reason behind this is that The American Nightmare is set to defend his title at WWE Backlash.
After AJ Styles defeated LA Knight in the number one contenders match for the Undisputed Universal Championship, The Phenomenal One booked his spot to go one-on-one against Rhodes. What makes their match a must-see for the pro wrestling world is the kind of history they have, and also the amount of experience they have as in-ring performers in the professional wrestling world.

Can @CodyRhodes leave #WWEBacklash: France STILL Undisputed WWE Champion or will @AJStylesOrg put an end to Rhodes’ reign before it even gets started? #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/6MhYCUsTDq
As Styles came out to confront Cody after his victory over Carmelo Hayes, and they also signed a contract on the recent episode of SmackDown, the hype around this feud has gone really high. But the way Cody Rhodes was struggling with his shoulder after the match on Friday’s show, it remains to be seen if he would be able to make it to Backlash or not.
