Many NFL players have got themselves involved in severe controversies and Sergio Brown is one of them. Born in May 1988, the former safety had a decent 7-year career in the league. He grabbed the limelight several times with his performance in the league. However, recently Brown has been in the news for murder charges.
Sergio Brown has been in prison for around a couple of months now. The 35-year-old NFL star has the charges of killing his mother, Myrtle Brown, and concealing her body. It’s reportedly a 1st-degree murder charge along with 1 count of concealment of a dead body.

The 6-foot-2 Indianapolis Colts star is now fighting back in the murder case. He has now pleaded not guilty to all the charges he has on him. As per a Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office source, Sergio Brown pleaded not guilty on October 6 before an Illinois judge. Now, reports suggest that the star player will have another hearing in January 2024.
It’s worth noting that Sergio Brown is currently in prison without any bail. The former NFL safety will have to stay there until he proves himself not guilty. Now, only time will decide whether the star player will get bail anytime soon or not.
What happened to the mother of Sergio Brown?
Sergio Brown, who was once a great NFL player, killed his 73-year-old mom Myrtle Brown. The former Patriots star reportedly committed the crime in September this year in Maywood’s Chicago suburb. He then dumped her body less than 50 yards away from his home. On September 15, he flew to Mexico after killing his mother.
As per the court documents, Brown‘s brother last spoke to his mother at around 3:00 pm pm September 14. After that, Myrtle stopped responding to his calls and messages which worried him. The brother of Sergio Brown then visited their home to check on his mother on September 16. When he reached, there was no one in the house and there were no signs of forced entry.
The same day, they filed a missing complaint for the Jaguars star and his mother. While searching the area around the house, the neighbors reportedly found the body of Myrtle, wrapped in a sheet. The search team found out that someone cleaned the bathtub with Ajax cleaner. After that, CCTV camera footage showed Sergio Brown burning a few things on September 14.
Notably, the credit cards, mobile, and iPad of Myrtle were missing from the site. Documents reveal that she died of blunt force trauma. In October, the Mexican authorities took the Notre Dame star in custody. They then took him to San Diego before the police arrested him on October 10. During a hearing in late October, an Illinois judge called him a “real and present threat” to society.
Notably, the judge ordered the police to keep Sergio Brown in jail without bail. All the evidence shows that the former Buffalo Bills as guilty. Now, it’ll be worth watching what the future has in store for him.
