SUMMARY
- Max Holloway requested the UFC to let him wear custom floral shorts in his fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300.
- Holloway has made the same request once before in 2022.
Max Holloway has made a special request to Dana White and the UFC before his BMF title bout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. ‘Blessed’ has followed in the lines of Bryce Mitchell and Sean O’Malley in asking for custom shorts for his fight.
O’Malley recently wore pink shorts while defending his UFC Bantamweight Championship at UFC 299 against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. Mitchell had also worn custom shorts a few years ago and Holloway had asked for floral shorts at the same time. His request was not approved. So, he is back again with the same request.

Holloway said, “I think the UFC can still give me my floral shorts and I’m not giving up on that. I believe that we’re going to get a floral short sometime hopefully soon. We’ll see what happens, you know. I mean if I’m not going to be able to have an event in Hawaii or even if they do and I’m not going to be able to be a part of it the least they can do is give the man floral shorts, right?”
Further, he mentioned that people want it so the UFC should abide. “We’re seeing people with purple we’re seeing people with pink give me my damn floral. I want it, the people want it. UFC likes to give what the people want so floral shorts, come on UFC,” he added.
However, this is not the first time he has turned to the UFC with such a request. The former UFC Featherweight Champion made such a request a couple of years ago via X.
Max Holloway asked for floral shorts before his trilogy fight against Alexander Volkanovski in 2022
Holloway lost his featherweight title to Volkanovski at UFC 245 and lost the rematch at UFC 251. He was set to face the Aussie fighter again at UFC 276 for the title. Before the fight, he took to X to request custom shorts.

Bryce Mitchell had recently got his camouflage shorts request approved and Holloway tried to get his way as well. However, it was not to be for the Hawaiian.
Sean O’Malley hopes the UFC will keep his pink shorts forever
O’Malley seemingly got inspiration from a fan edit on X for his pink shorts. The UFC approved his request and Suga did a big reveal of his shorts before the UFC 299 title fight.
The shorts received a great debut as O’Malley fought skillfully and defended his title convincingly. After the fight, O’Malley planned on asking the UFC to keep his shorts forever.

In an interview with the MMA Hour, he said, “I thought it was perfect… I felt like a video game character, and, you know, I love the pink short. [I would] love to stick with that. Again, I don’t know if UFC is gonna allow that. I don’t see why not. I don’t think you can go back from that. So, yeah, hopefully stay in with that.”
Like O’Malley and Mitchell, Holloway would be hoping to get his request accepted as well. ‘Blessed’ will be moving to lightweight for the second time in his career as he prepares to face Gaethje at the milestone UFC 300 PPV on April 13, 2024.
