Mac McClung has everyone murmuring his name now after putting on a spectacular show during the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. The point guard is now slowly emerging onto the main stages with his consistent performances even in the G League. It will only be a short matter of time before he starts getting his name recognized among the league leaders if he continues on this path.
During the All-Star Weekend Dunk Contest, the Philadelphia 76ers point guard made history. He became the only G-League player to win the dunk competition. Not to forget the incredibly creative dunks he pulled off during the competition which included a 540-degree jam. He sealed it by saying “It’s over” to the cameras around him. He had the entire stadium on their feet, the judges in disbelief and Dwyane Wade losing his mind over what he witnessed.

Trey Murphy III was left speechless by his opponent’s performance as well. After what Mac McClung did, Murphy knew it was the end of the road for him. The guard is record-breakingly talented in his own special way. Mac also recorded the seventh-highest vertical leap score in NBA draft combine history (43.5 inches). As far as greatness goes, McClung completely demolished a record set by Kobe Bryant.
Which record of Kobe Bryant did Mac McClung shatter?
As obvious as it is, Mac McClung is one of the shorter individuals in the NBA. Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, Mac can be seriously underestimated as a hyper-athletic guard. His athleticism resembles Russell Westbrook in a way but is much shorter in height. Last night, the Sixers player managed to break an insane record set by Kobe.
He broke the record for having played the fewest NBA games before winning the Dunk Contest Title. Bryant played 39 games while Mac McClung only appeared in two. He joined the legendary Spud Webb as one of the shortest players to get three 50s in a single dunk contest.
Recently, he signed a two-way contract with the Philadephia 76ers while playing for the Delaware Blue Coats in the G-League. Little did the Sixers know, Mac would instantly get them accolades becoming the first player of the franchise to win the dunk contest as well. All in all, McClung is on his way to landing some serious damage in the league.
