With the NFL 2023 regular season approaching, August 29 was the trade deadline for the teams. Everyone thought that the Indianapolis Colts would trade Jonathan Taylor, but they didn’t. The star running back is still on the Active/ Physically Unable to Play (PUP) list with the Colts.
As per ESPN, this happened because the team could not find a fair-value offer for Jonathan Taylor. Now, he’s on the PUP list and reportedly won’t play at least in the first four games for the team. According to reports, the star player is set to miss the matches against the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Baltimore Ravens.

The Colts will get another chance to trade the running back around the trade deadline of October 31. If the team still doesn’t get a deal, they can give Jonathan Taylor the franchise tag. Earlier, Chris Ballard, the general manager of the Colts, didn’t make any clear statements about trading Taylor.
“We’ll make those decisions when we need to make those decisions,” he said.
Jonathan Taylor signed his rookie contract with the Colts in 2020 after becoming their 41st pick. It was a $7.8 million contract for four years, comprising a signing bonus of $3.2 million. His contract includes an average yearly salary of $1.9 million and a guaranteed $4.2 million. This year, Taylor will earn a base salary of $4.3 million.
Considering the exceptional talent the running back possesses, there are many teams interested in acquiring him. Reports suggest that the Miami Dolphins are among the teams interested in Jonathan Taylor. Now, it’ll be worth watching wherever the player goes in the future.
Jonathan Taylor has been familiar with injuries throughout his career
Jonathan Taylor impressed everyone with his stellar performance in his first season. The running back became the rushing yards leader in the league in his second season in 2021. However, his football career has been full of injuries since his college days.
While playing for the University of Wisconsin, Taylor sustained a leg quad stain in 2017. However, the injury was not major, so the star player didn’t miss any games. In the NFL, Jonathan Taylor suffered from a pedal ankle injury while playing against the Detroit Lions. After that, he sustained a Grade 1 knee strain in 2021, which led him to miss the practice sessions.
Last year, the running back again sustained a couple of ankle injuries. After that, he suffered a Grade 2 Pedal ankle sprain while playing against the Tennessee Titans. He again sustained a pedal ankle high sprain, this time a Grade 3 one. The injury led Jonathan Taylor to go through surgery, and since then, he has been missing games.
In his three-year NFL career, Jonathan Taylor has rushed for 3841 yards with a rushing average of 5.1. He has recorded 33 rushing TDs and 104 receptions. He also has 802 rushing yards and three receiving touchdowns.
After having a wonderful start to his NFL career, Taylor has been suffering from a bad time. However, once he recovers, the running back will surely bounce back even stronger.
