The boxing world was finally treated to Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury on February 26, 2023. While neither are elite boxers, both had a great deal of star power behind them. Although the fight promised a lot of fireworks, it ultimately turned out to be more of a technical boxing match. While Fury was utilizing jabs and movement to out-point Jake, the latter relied on his power.
Ultimately Tommy Fury won unanimously via judges’ decision and gave Jake the first loss of his professional career. Boxers usually often do not hide behind excuses to mask their losses. However, when they do, they often find some innovative excuses. Former heavyweight champ Deontany Wilder blamed the weight of his costume for the loss against Tyson Fury in their second fight.

For fans who follow UFC, former middleweight title contender Paulo Costa blamed his wine consumption before his UFC 253 bout against Israel Adesanya for his loss. Many fans found the excuse hilarious. However, Jake Paul may have managed to surpass them all with the most recent comments on his Tommy Fury loss. Apparently, Jake had a wet dream which led to him losing all his energy just ahead of the fight.

He said, “I woke up in a panic like, ‘F***’. You have two weeks of testosterone built up and so a wet dream happens. It makes your legs weak… I think it’s one of many reasons [why I lost].” (h/t via fightjoe)
Jake Paul wants an immediate rematch against Tommy Fury
Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury did great business in terms of PPV sales. Although the official numbers are yet to be revealed, Paul has claimed that the PPV had a buy rate of 775k+. So it seems like a no-brainer that Jake would want to run back the fight immediately. Although Jake added that he was at 100% heading into the fight, he revealed after the bout that he did not feel his usual self during the bout.

Jake seemed stiff in the ring and did not have the same mobility that he had during his bout against Anderson Silva in 2022. It means there is a lot of room for improvement in the potential rematch, which may lead to a trilogy depending on the result. But Jake has been feuding with KSI on Twitter recently. The British YouTuber-turned-boxer called both Jake and Tommy “trash” after the bout.
KSI added that his end goal was to fight Jake Paul in a boxing ring once before retiring. Maybe Jake’s loss to Tommy Fury just opens up the opportunity for the bout to take place sooner rather than later. So it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Jake after his first pro-career loss.
Good luck with your next one. https://t.co/EGfy953Kp5 pic.twitter.com/cYYKOWCa38
