Daniel Cormier is one of the most respected and accomplished sports personalities in the MMA scene. A former two-division UFC champion, a former Strikeforce champion, a former King of the Cage champion, and a UFC Hall of Famer are just some of his many stacked achievements. Although one dent in his legacy always remains losing twice to the asserted UFC GOAT, Jon Jones.
Jones and DC had a rivalry surpassing all personal and professional boundaries and ranking among the greatest. Both fighters being highly gifted and competitive made this story a battle for dominance. Cormier was undefeated in his professional MMA career for 15 straight fights until Jon arrived at the scene, defeating him for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 182 through a unanimous decision.
In his recent podcast on YouTube, Cormier responded to the tweet Jon Jones made against him about being a bad employee and further taunted the UFC Hall of Fame for having beaten him twice. This tweet was a shot taken at Daniel after he called Jones a bad employee when in conversation with former UFC fighter Ben Askeren.
The two were discussing the leaked tweets of UFC president Dana White with former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta, revealing his unhappiness with Jones’s antics. Cormier stated, “Even if he won in that moment, it doesn’t change what I was saying. I am getting paid to do a job, guys; I’m getting paid to talk and try to make sense,” defending his statements as coming more from an analyst point of view than a former rival.
Daniel Cormier addresses Jon Jones’s bad employee remark
Further in his podcast, Daniel Cormier addressed the bad employee remark he talked about during his interview with Ben Askren. Cormier stated, “Even if he won both fights, it doesn’t change what happened with the fight with Dan Henderson; it doesn’t change what happened at UFC 200; it doesn’t change all those reasons why Dana went off,” highlighting the incidents that caused his rift with Dana.
Daniel further defended himself by stating that he didn’t mean to point out Jones as an individual but rather made the remark based on employee-boss relationship dynamics. DC took the side of Dana White for having hard feelings against the current Heavyweight Champion based on the many occasions in which he has been let down and had to face the consequences.
Jon Jones’s estranged relationship with Dana White and the UFC
Jon Jones although having a UFC career next to none seems to still not be the perfect face or image for the organization. Although he claims it is a better relation with the company now admits his past mistakes. This could be due to his behavioral issues or eccentric personality. It would include a lot of incidents causing a bad name to the organization and even talked about Cormier in his podcast.
I was actually called and offered to fight on the event. The guys said they just wanted to give me the option. We both knew I wouldn’t be ready. My relationship with UFC is better now than it’s ever been. https://t.co/iLHvJ0f6vg

This would involve Jones backing out to fight against Chael Sonnen after his initial opponent, Dan Henderson, got injured at UFC 151. It led to the event getting canceled, impacting the reputation of the company as well as incurring losses. The second incident would be Jones being taken out of the UFC 300-headlined main event against DC after testing positive for an illegal substance.
