Russian star Maria Sharapova was a prolific tennis player during her prime. Sharapova won 5 Grand Slam titles till her retirement and is one of the only ten WTA players to have a Career Slam. She was a hard worker, and her results are a testament to her capabilities as a player. While she hung up her racket in 2020, there are speculations that she may be on her way back to the tennis courts.

At least Australian tennis star Daria Saville thinks that Maria may be preparing for her eventual return. Saville shared her opinions on Maria’s workout routine recently, raising the possibility of a comeback.

Saville shared Maria’s clip of working out at the gym on her Instagram story. The Russian can be seen engaged in an intense session, that included a variety of other exercises.

Saville, the former world number 20, joked that she could smell a comeback soon. “I’m smelling another comeback. no one does specific exercises like this just to “feel” good,” Daria captioned her story.

Maria Sharapova may have retired from tennis, but her legacy lives on. She conquered all the surfaces, but she was the most dominant on clay, winning the French Open twice.

Throughout her career, Sharapova had to contend with a myriad of injuries, which ultimately curtailed her career. However, Sharapova is in a better place now, pursuing other interests, and raising her son, Theodore.

Maria Sharapova is happy with her life

The tennis icon made a recent appearance at the US Open last month. She turned up on the opening day, in a blazing red power suit, one that turned heads wherever she went.

Sharapova played her last game at the Australian Open in 2020, where Donna Vekic defeated her in the first round. She announced her retirement just a month later. This time, Maria was happy to return to return to the Flushing Meadows just as a spectator.

“I’m very happy with where I am at this stage of life. I appreciate what the sport has taught me and where it’s taken me, but I definitely love seeing it from the outside now,” she said (via New York Post).

Sharapova loved having an outsider’s perspective on the matches that were played. She added how she loved watching the new generation of players carve out a name for themselves.

While it would be amazing to have Maria Sharapova back on the tennis courts, as of now that seems unlikely. Motherhood is keeping Maria busy for now.
