Cody Rhodes took the WWE Universe into a massive tumult of emotions at WWE Payback 2023. Initially talking to Grayson Waller, he soon welcomed Jey Uso to the red brand of the division. The surprise came a few days after WWE moved Jey Uso to the alumni section of their website.
Jey Uso was betrayed by his brother, Jimmy Uso, during his match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam. The betrayal broke Jey to the core, and in a fit of anger, he quit the brand and the company at large. His “I’m out of SmackDown” makes sense to the audience now. Cody brought one-half of The Usos back to Payback, leaving the fans flabbergasted.

However, this act by Cody Rhodes has made fans curious about his future in the Stamford-based promotion. There is a possibility that Cody will be moved to the blue brand of the division. This would not only give him a valuable storyline but also help him clinch the world title.
The American Nightmare returned to WWE in 2022 to fulfill the dream of his father. However, the aim has remained unachieved to date. Looking back at the past few months of his run, he did not even get an impactful storyline. Thus, changing brands might give him what he has been aspiring for in his career.
Is WWE planning Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40?
Cody Rhodes’ moving to SmackDown can play a significant role in deciding the future of the World Championship. Roman Reigns has already walked out strong against Cody Rhodes and defended his title at WrestleMania 39. However, everyone felt that Rhodes must be given another title shot.
Over the past few months, Roman Reigns has been involved in an angle with The Usos, especially Jey Uso. Now, he has been drafted to RAW, leaving no big name to feud with Reigns. Cody Rhodes’ SmackDown movement would also eliminate this issue. Moreover, there are hardly any names who can dethrone Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes is one of them.
If Cody walks into the ring on Friday, WWE would have plenty of time to build up an angle between the two for WrestleMania 40. Reigns has been holding the Championship for over 1097 days (and continuing), and a majority of the fans wholeheartedly want him to be dethroned. It would be nothing less than a dream to see Cody Rhodes become Roman Reigns’ successor at WrestleMania 40.
