Arnold Schwarzenegger is a man of many talents. He is Hollywood royalty, an astute politician, and a famous bodybuilder. Born in the Styria region of Austria, Arnold developed a passion for bodybuilding at the very young age of 15 and by the time he turned 20, the future California governor became Mr. Universe. With a net worth of $450 million, Arnold has all the wealth and fame in the world.
The 75-year-old has seven Mr. Olympia titles during his bodybuilding career from 1970 to 1980. After walking away from professional bodybuilding, Arnold turned his attention to acting and became the biggest action star of his time alongside Sylvester Stallone. He starred in classics like “Conan the Barbarian,” “The Terminator” franchise, “Total Recall,” “True Lies,” and “Commando.”
After his acting career started to wind down, Arnold shifted his focus to politics and served as the governor of California from November 2003 to January 2011. He is also the father of five children, Christina Schwarzenegger, Christopher Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and Joseph Baena.
Fans have come to know many details of his personal life over the years. But one burning question that they have repeatedly asked, is about his religious faith. Is the man, who played the role of an android cyborg, an atheist? Let’s find out.
Which Religion does Arnold Schwarzenegger believe in?
As previously mentioned, Arnold was born in Austria in 1947. He then moved to the United States of America in 1968. He also revealed previously that he grew up as a Catholic Christian. Schwarzenegger also revealed that his catechisms were an essential part of his childhood as he learned about the Bible pretty early on in his life.
Fans got a more in-depth view about Arnold’s beliefs when an Interview Magazine conversation with Danny DeVito was published on June 5, 2023. The pair have previously appeared together in classic movies such as “Twins” and “The Last Action Hero.” During their conversation, the pair spoke about the concept of the afterlife and how it does not fit with his belief system.
He added, “It reminds me of Howard Stern’s question to me. ‘Tell me, governor, what happens to us when we die?’ I said, ‘Nothing. You’re 6 feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f—ing liar.’ I said, ‘We don’t know what happens with the soul and all this spiritual stuff that I’m not an expert in, but I know that the body as we see each other now, we will never see each other again like that.”
But the former politician did not just stop there. Schwarzenegger went on to reveal what he thinks waits for people when they pass away. He added, “When people talk about, ‘I will see them again in heaven,’ it sounds so good, but the reality is that we won’t see each other again after we’re gone. That’s the sad part. I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t.'” (h/t via Sportskeeda)
This begs the question, did Arnold Schwarzenegger change his thoughts on religion? His son-in-law and Hollywood A-list actor Chris Pratt is a devout Christian and he is very open about his beliefs. But what about Arnold Schwarzenegger? Well, it is a complicated issue as there have been mixed signals about his religious beliefs in recent times.
On January 25, 2017, Arnold posted a photo of himself meeting Pope Francis. It certainly hints toward him still maintaining his roots of catechism. However, his recent comments about him not believing in “heaven” hints at him possibly leaving his religious beliefs behind. So what are your thoughts on the matter?
