WWE ended 2023 on a really high note, as the fans were treated to some of the most exciting storylines in recent memory. But the Stamford-based promotion probably wants to make 2024 even better, as the January 1 edition of Monday Night RAW was an absolute banger.
While there were a lot of moments to talk about from the show, the biggest of them all was the return of Dwayne Johnson. The Brahma Bull made his presence felt on the first RAW of 2024. Moreover, he hinted at a potential feud with Roman Reigns, which has been a hot topic for years.
“Should The Rock sit in a booth… should The Rock sit at the bar… or should The Rock sit at the HEAD OF THE TABLE?”

It’s absolutely true that Dwayne’s return has enhanced the excitement about the path the Triple-H-led promotion might follow for this year’s WrestleMania. But a part of the WWE universe is unhappy, as they feel that this might be an obstruction in the story of Cody Rhodes.
The American Nightmare has always been vocal about how he wants to reign at the top of WWE, for which he’ll obviously have to dethrone Reigns. However, The Rock’s return might make it difficult for the star to win the Undisputed Championship from The Tribal Chief.
Sharing how Cody may never get to complete his story, a pro wrestling enthusiast wrote, “Cody is never gonna finish the story.” Referring to how this might be a tough pill to take for Rhodes, a WWE fan commented, “If I’m Cody, I’m giving my notice.“ (Via: X)
Fans are disappointed about how Johnson’s return may delay The American Nightmare’s story. But the in-ring star would himself be unhappy if that’s really the path ahead. However, as WWE still has a lot of time for the build-up to WrestleMania, it’ll be interesting to see if Cody gets to finish his story or not.
Dwayne Johnson has previously hinted at a match against Roman Reigns
The People’s Champion hinting at a match against Reigns might seem like the first ever such a moment to many, but it really isn’t. It previously happened just before his 2023 return to WWE on the September 15 SmackDown, when The Rock made a major revelation about the plan of his rumored feud against Roman.
This took place when the Hollywood star appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, where he talked about his acting and in-ring career. While referring to his highly anticipated feud with The Tribal Chief, Dwayne revealed that the match was planned to be held at WrestleMania 39.
As the match didn’t actually take place and he’s been away from in-ring action, McAfee asked about the reason for him remaining away from in-ring competition. While answering the same, The Brahma Bull shared that it’s not due to some injury or something.
Moreover, Dwayne Johnson said that he’ll surely think about returning for a match when he gets the opportunity to give fans something they’ve never seen before. In addition, he confirmed that he’s open for a match at WrestleMania 40, and it was probably a clear indication that a match with Roman can still take place in WWE.
With the Hollywood actor’s recent promo on RAW’s January 1 episode, the uncertainty about the path WWE will now follow has peaked. But one thing’s for sure: whatever the Stamford-based promotion might do, it’ll guarantee fans an immense amount of entertainment. Who do you feel will challenge Roman at WrestleMania 40? Only the future knows.
