SUMMARY
- Randy Orton is considered to be one of the greatest ever workers in the history of WWE.
- The 14-time World Champion is loved by fans, but he's done some of his best work in the company as a vicious heel.
WWE veteran Randy Orton is considered to be among the biggest stars of the company’s Modern Era, and not many would argue about it. Since being a part of Evolution in his early days to being a 14-time World Champion, The Viper has certainly come a long way, and his mic work is a big reason behind this success.
The Legend Killer has been a fan-loved superstar, but he has spent most of his career being a heel. In fact, many believe that he did his best work while being on the heelish side only. One such segment involving Randy has recently been going viral on the internet, in which Orton can be seen giving such a performance that many have been saying he’s a menace.
In an old promo from Monday Night RAW’s September 20, 2010, episode, the WWE legend can be seen cooking Sheamus in a battle of words. Showing how far he can go if it comes to holding the prestigious title in the company, the veteran said, “I would RKO my own grandmother if it meant keeping this title.”

But what heated things even more between the pro wrestlers was what Randy said about The Celtic Warrior‘s family. “And, then I would RKO your grandmother, just to see the look on her face,” the 6-foot-5 added. While these remarks themselves were extreme, the way Orton carried them out made them even bitter. That’s probably a reason why this throwback video has went viral.
WWE Universe reacts to Randy Orton’s vintage promo
As soon as this old promo by Randy came on the internet, it went viral, and the WWE universe started sharing different kinds of responses. Reacting to the video, an audience member told how this part of Orton’s career was iconic by writing, “2009 Randy is unrivaled.” (Via: X)
Sharing the kind of performance this character of The Viper used to give, someone on X said, “I could watch this Randy over and over.” “2007-2010 Ortan was indeed a menace,” another pro wrestling fan said while labeling the legendary in-ring star as a menace.
Randy Orton has a long history of unhinged moments in the WWE
Following the viral video, fans have been labeling Randy under different terms, and a major reason behind this is his past in the Stamford-based promotion. In fact, Orton has a long history of unhinged moments in the WWE. During his early days, it was on the August 4, 2003 RAW when The Viper did something like this for probably the first time.
On the show, he remarked how “more people came to see Randy Orton’s nip*les than Stacy Keibler’s.” This was something really unexpected and could have been avoided. Going too far in a promo, on the February 3, 2006, edition of SmackDown, the veteran mocked WWE legend Rey Mysterio by stating that Eddie Guerrero wasn’t in heaven but hell.
Making such a remark about a departed soul wasn’t just avoidable, but it was really disrespectful. While these two incidents were from segments, Orton even gave fans an unhinged moment during a match. On May 20, 2011, he did a leap-frog and touched his toes during a match against Mark Henry. It was just hilarious, and everyone wondered what the reason was behind doing this.
While these are just some examples from his past, The Legend Killer has continued doing such things even after becoming a legend. In fact, that’s probably a major reason why fans always keep an eye on Randy’s matches, as no one really knows when he’s going to do something like this in the Stamford-based promotion.
