SUMMARY
- Jinder Mahal was officially released by WWE on April 19, 2024.
- This decision was a shocking one for the fans, as Jinder was a popular name.
Jinder Mahal is no longer a part of WWE, as the Indian-origin pro wrestler was released by the company on April 19. Amid the kind of segments he had earlier this year against Dwayne Johnson and Seth Rollins, The Modern Day Maharaja’s departure from the company was really unexpected, and fans were shocked by it.
The former 3MB member announced his exit from the Stamford-based promotion last weekend, and now he has opened up a bit about his recent run. While talking about his career in the organization, Jinder revealed how he is grateful to AEW’s Tony Khan for one of the best moments of his career in the promotion.
Mahal talked about how Tony’s online beef with him before the World Heavyweight Championship match against Rollins in January 2024 took the hype for the bout to a whole new level. Jinder said, “Thank you, Tony. You made the match with Seth more interesting. People thought I was going to win it just to spite Tony. I was surprised, everyone stuck up for me, it never happened before.”

The Modern Day Maharaja’s comments about Khan’s involvement in the whole storyline are probably true, as fans fully supported Jinder Mahal against the All Elite Wrestling CEO. If that hadn’t happened, not many would have thought about Jinder defeating Seth Rollins, and that’s probably why the former WWE Champion remains grateful to Tony.
What was Tony Khan’s argument with Jinder Mahal?
Most people are aware that Tony Khan and Jinder Mahal were part of an online beef in January 2024, but not many are aware of the exact reason. In this regard, it must be noted that the entire issue started after WWE booked Jinder for a World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins, which was set to be held on January 15.
Mahal getting a shot at the title was a shocker for fans, but Tony probably felt it too much, and he even posted about it on his X handle. His remarks against Jinder Mahal took the entire industry by storm, and The Modern Day Maharaja also responded to Tony’s tweet in a sarcastic way. He asked, “Who tf is Hook?,” and told fans to watch him fight on RAW.

Mahal buried Tony through this tweet, and it was enough for fans to take note, as they started trolling Tony Khan for his statement about Mahal. This argument became the hottest topic of discussion, and the Indian-origin star got a lot of fan support. Despite this, he lost the match against The Visionary, which was a hard-hitting contest between the two. And, now, after over three months of that saga, Jinder’s run with WWE has ended, as they officially released him.
Jinder Mahal isn’t the only Indian superstar to be released by WWE
The Modern Day Maharaja’s wasn’t seen on WWE TV after his match against Seth Rollins, and wrestling fans were wondering what’s next for the former US Champion. To everyone’s surprise, his association with the company ended, but Jinder Mahal isn’t the only Indian superstar to be released by the Triple H-led promotion.
In addition to Mahal, his Indus Sher teammates Veer Mahaan and Sanga have also been released, and their responses to the departure have made the whole thing a bit controversial. The reason behind this is that they’ve stated that the company never thinks about giving Indian wrestlers opportunities to shine and make it big in the promotion.
Sharing disappointment over WWE’s usage of Indian talent, Sanga posted a video and said, “It’s sad, but you need to understand that we come from a land with 1.4 billion people, and they like you and us, and they want talented athletes from their home country to be represented and work on an international level.”
Similarly, Veer also posted a tweet in which he shared a cryptic message by writing, “When it comes to the honor and respect of Indians, sacrifice comes first. Good Bye WWE.” On the contrary, Jinder hasn’t shared anything that mentions his country or the way he was treated in the organization, but it remains to be seen if he does in the near future or not.
