UFC 300 saw one of the greatest fights of all time between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. The two fought for the BMF title on the main card. Coming into the bout, many saw Justin as a clear favorite due to his advantage in size and power. While the fight was in the balance for 24:59 seconds, Holloway landed the KO blow at the 4:59 minute of the final round and knocked out Justin.
It was an amazing moment that rocked the T-Mobile arena as everybody was in disbelief at the shocking nature of the KO. After the contest, Max Holloway walked away with $600,000 in bonuses. Not only was it the ‘Fight of the Night’, but the Hawaiian fighter also received a $300,000 bonus for his KO as well. Before the event, Dana White announced that bonuses would be worth $300,000 in honor of UFC’s 300th PPV event.
In the aftermath of the fight, Justin Gaethje once again won hearts with his reaction. He took to his social media account to congratulate his opponent. Despite the heartbreaking defeat at the last possible moment, “The Highlight” added that he was in great spirits with his family. However, Gaethje’s family has also come onto the radar, somewhat unwarrantedly, after his loss
Tim Welch criticizes fans for focusing on Justin Gaethje’s parents after UFC 300
Tim Welch is a former MMA fighter and the current coach of the UFC bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley. Welch recorded his reaction after the KO to upload on his YouTube channel. However, co-incidentally, during Welch’s recording, Justin Gaethje’s parents were sitting right behind him. Some eagle-eyed fans pointed it out online and since then, the screenshots and clips of Justin’s parents’ reaction to him getting KO’ed went viral.
However, it did not please Tim Welch who condemned the action from fans and the media members. He added, “These media people zooming in on Justin’s Parents in my are pieces of sh*t , I was filming my reaction video and had no clue his parents were behind me until Sugar told me later.”
I was trying to get Dricuss also , how would I know what Justin’s parents look like

In reply to the post, one fan accused Tim of editing the video in such a way that Gaethje’s parents were visible. However, Welch denied those allegations and added, “I was trying to get Dricuss also , how would I know what Justin’s parents look like.”
In the video, it was evident that Justin’s parents were in a lot of distress after seeing their son getting knocked out in a brutal fashion at UFC 300. After the KO punch landed, Justin’s father John Ray Gaethje turned away from Octagon and his mother Carolina Gaethje seemingly broke down in tears. It was a sensitive footage that should have been kept private. Perhaps that’s why Tim also felt bad about unknowingly recording the fighter’s parents and asked fans and media to refrain from using the clips.
Tim Welch gives his thoughts on how Max Holloway KO’ed Justin Gaethje
While not many mention his name amongst the elite coaches, Tim Welch is certainly a candidate to be one of the best coaches in MMA at present. Hence, many wanted to know his thoughts after witnessing Max Holloway’s knockout of Justin Gaethje in person. The 33-year-old broke down the bout on his YouTube account and shared his insight on how the contest played out.
He said, “One thing, as soon as they started slugging, you see Justin’s chin come up in the air. His shoulders aren’t down, his head’s not tucked, his chin is kind of coming up in the air. And, Max is sitting there throwing fast hooks, goes body body and it’s almost like Justin had a little collar tie. As soon as he went down there, he (Max) went right body shot, left body shot, overhand right. Justin had a little collar tie with his left and boom! He Snuck it in and it just crumples him.” He further added that the moment was “sad to see.”
Welch also shared an interesting tidbit about Sean O’Malley during the video. He added that even “Suga Sean” was attempting to replicate Max Holloway’s signature move of standing in the middle of the Octagon to swing for the fences during his bout against Chito Vera at UFC 299. Although it is exciting to witness, it is not the ideal way to win a fight and Welch suggested against it. What are your thoughts on the fight? Let us know in the comment below.
