SUMMARY
- Giannis Antetokounmpo prefers watching EuroLeague games more than NBA games.
- The Greek Freak also hopes to participate in the upcoming Olympics games.
Giannis Antetokounmpo caused quite a lot of noise in the basketball community by showing an apparent lack of interest in NBA games when compared to Euroleague games. To the few fans who might not be aware, Giannis is the franchise star for the Milwaukee Bucks and helped the team win an NBA title in 2021. He is also considered one of the best players currently in the NBA.
Although there is no denying the Greek Freak’s talent and ability on the basketball court, his interest in NBA games and attention to detail was soon called out after reports emerged indicating that he preferred watching other basketball league games as opposed to the one he is currently a part of. That said, a closer look at the situation is required.
Even Luka Doncic shared similar thoughts about the NBA
It might interest fans to hear that Giannis is not the only player to show a lack of interest in NBA games. Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic also held the EuroLeague games to a higher standard and quality when compared to NBA games and opined that it was harder to score in the EuroLeague.
“I watch both Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. I don’t watch all the games but the highlights. I wish both of the teams the best. … I watch [them play], but I’m not watching full games. I only see the highlights. I like it a lot. I don’t watch the NBA, but I do watch the EuroLeague.”
While the matter of which league is superior when comparing the NBA and EuroLeague is certainly up for debate, Giannis’ interest in international activities raises a larger question at this point in time.
Giannis Antetokounmpo hopes to participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics
Despite the success that the NBA has seen over the past decades, one could still claim that the Olympics are the biggest platform for basketball and an opportunity for players from across the world to showcase their impressive skills while also representing their country.
“I’d love to play in the Olympics…But it’s still far away. It’s 4-5 months from now. I won’t lie to you — I don’t have the Olympics in my mind right now, and I don’t think about it. But when that moment comes, I’d very much like to do well in the pre-Olympics and hopefully get a qualification for the main event.”
Bucks fans must undoubtedly be pleased to hear that Giannis has his attention on winning an NBA championship at the moment as opposed to playing for the Olympics. Since the team is doing quite well this season, securing another NBA title is not out of the question and is quite possible.
