Edge and John Cena have been two of the most influential WWE performers of their generation. They enjoyed immense popularity in the professional wrestling industry and are still a major draw among fans wherever they appear.
Both these legends have great respect for each other, as they share a lot of history together throughout their careers in the Triple H-led promotion. Recently, a former WWE champion shared an interesting take on their iconic rivalry, as he claimed that The Rated-R Superstar is The Joker to John Cena’s Batman.
The guy was none other than former United States Champion Austin Theory, and he shared this opinion on the After The Bell podcast. During his interview with Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick, Theory said, “For me, Edge’s honestly right there next to John Cena for me.”
“Because anytime you watch a show that you’re invested in, I guess especially as a kid, you can have a really good Good Guy but you got to have a really good Bad Guy, and Edge was always that Joker to that Batman and he was somebody that I loved to watch,” he added. (Via: YARDBARKER)
The 2022 MITB briefcase winner’s comments about The Rated-R Superstar show how much he admires him. With so much love for the Canadian legend, Austin is really lucky to have a singles match against his childhood hero, Edge.
John Cena and other legends paid homage to Edge on his 25-year anniversary
While Edge has still been performing exceptionally well in the Stamford-based promotion, he has been associated with the company for the last 25 years. And the Triple-H-led promotion celebrated this milestone in a great way on the August 18 episode of SmackDown.
On a recent episode that aired from The Rated-R Superstar’s home country, his greatest rival John Cena paid homage to Edge on the occasion of his 25-year anniversary. The Ultimate Opportunist had also received words of appreciation from WWE legends such as Mick Foley and The Undertaker.
It must be noted that Edge gave an exceptional performance against Sheamus during the main event of the recent episode of Friday’s show. This match was the last one in the Rated-R Superstar’s current WWE contract, and it was obvious that he’d win it, which he eventually did.
With this victory, the Ultimate Opportunist’s contract has ended, and it remains to be seen if he’ll continue working with Triple H’s company or not. If Edge decides to end his WWE career, he can possibly think about a possible shift to All Elite Wrestling. If he does, there are numerous possibilities for him to be involved in, but will he really move to the Jacksonville-based promotion? Only the future knows the answer to this question!
