Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is facing a lot of criticism and heat for his recent involvement in the WWE, thanks to Cody Rhodes. Known for capturing the audience like no other WWE superstar, The Rock is in the middle of facing a lot of unwanted attention. He made his shocking return to the company on RAW Day 1, where he called out his cousin and the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.
This sent shockwaves throughout the WWE Universe, as everyone wanted to see the brothers collide. However, Cody Rhodes did the unthinkable in the meantime and won the Royal Rumble match. Fans were shifted to cheering for Rhodes in the hope of him finishing his year-long story. In the heat of the moment, Rock made his return and confronted Roman, hence sidelining Cody’s quest.
This created a social media outrage, and a new trend was started by the fans on the internet. “We want Cody” chants took over WWE’s social media pages as well as arenas. The WWE Universe has no interest in seeing Dwayne against Roman; they all want to see Cody finish the story. While Johnson thought it would be a good idea to have this dream match, it has backfired in the worst way possible.

After his return on SmackDown, it seems fans don’t have any interest in supporting The Rock. He is nowhere near the top-selling merchandise on the WWE Shop. He is behind his cousin Jey Uso in the top 10 most-selling T-shirts list. Main Event Jey Uso claimed the 7th spot on the list, whereas Rock finds himself in the 10th position.
The American Nightmare sits at the top of the list and has the most-selling merchandise as of now. Not only is he at the top, but he also has five spots on the list, including all of the top three. There is no denying that fans only want Cody Rhodes to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania and are hijacking social media as well as arenas to make it happen.
Can Cody Rhodes finish his story at WrestleMania 40 by facing Roman Reigns?
The Roman-Rock segment appeared to tease a match between the two at WrestleMania 40. In addition, the segment’s video earned a large number of dislikes from YouTube fans. Not only that, but the matchup drew harsh criticism from fans all across the world. Despite the outrage, The Rock used his official ‘X’ handle to make a message. He posted a video of Cody introducing him on Friday Night SmackDown.
Not only that, but he captioned the video with a lengthy message. Johnson began, “There’s a word for this explosive, insane reaction – undeniable.” He then went on to discuss his relationship with his loyal supporters. The Great One acknowledged the audience, the Stamford-based promotion, and Cody.
However, he eventually addressed Roman Reigns, stating that only one person would sit at The Head of the Table. The People’s Champion concluded, “I’ll see you in Vegas…”Uso.” Thus, it appears that, despite the harsh criticism, The Rock made his bout against Roman Reigns official. Apart from that, Johnson’s daughter Ava has recently received death threats as a result of the Reigns, Rock, and Rhodes saga.

However, everything is dependent on the impending WrestleMania 40 media conference. It is because this is the event at which Reigns’ challenger for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will be announced. It is scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and will air live from the T-Mobile Arena in Los Angeles.
With that, it remains to be seen who will challenge The Tribal Chief for the prized title. It remains to be seen whether The Rock will finally withdraw from the match and if Cody will be allowed to complete his story. Whatever the case, fans will undoubtedly look forward to the news conference. Not only that, but they will be looking forward to the year’s most anticipated event.
