Roman Reigns has already created history in the modern era of professional wrestling. Having held the WWE Universal Championship since 2020 and the WWE Championship since 2022, he has been undefeated ever since. With this, his titles were unified and thus came to be known as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
For the past three years, Reigns has been the highlight of multiple jaw-dropping storylines. Looking at his current reign, The Tribal Chief has now crossed 1200+ days of being the WWE Champion. With this, he is only behind Hulk Hogan, Bob Backlund and Bruno Sammartino in creating the world record.

Bruno Sammartino has held the title of WWF World Heavyweight Champion for a record 2803 days. If Reigns has to cross the record, it simply means that he will need to hold the title until 2028. Having already held the title for three years, four more years is an extremely long time to hold the title. Moreover, the fans are not happy with his prolonged title reign and it appears that he’d be compelled to drop the title.
However, within one year, Roman Reigns will be able to surpass Hulk Hogan’s 1474-day title reign record. This would bring him up to the third spot on global records. On the other hand, Bob Backlund’s record will be thrashed only in 2026. It would take quite a while for fans to witness Roman Reigns create history. If he does, the fans would be privileged to see a rare sight in a hundred years.
A glimpse into Roman Reigns’ current title run
Roman Reigns has been the highlight of the WWE division ever since he joined the promotion as a part of The Shield. His role in the faction earned him massive praise and he soon went ahead to shine out in his solo appearances. It took Reigns no time to be the leading star of the division, but leukemia was his biggest obstacle. In 2018, he had to leave WWE after his leukemia returned.
However, his return was all the more glorious. He made a surprise return at SummerSlam 2020, attacking Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman. At Payback, he defeated the two to become the WWE Universal Champion. Since then, he has defeated multiple stars, including John Cena and Jey Uso and successfully retained his title.
Roman Reigns held his current WWE Championship in his fourth run after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38. This marked his reign as the first star to hold the two titles simultaneously. His attainment of the championship also kicked off his undefeated streak and opened the doors for him by engraving his name in the golden letters of history.
