WWE Megastar John Cena has been one of the most loyal performers in the Stamford-based promotion’s history. The Cenation Leader was the face of the company for over a decade and is a record 16-time World Champion, tied with the legendary Ric Flair.
The 16-time Champion is not regularly featured on WWE television anymore, but recently fans have been expressing their opinions about John’s final match in the company. All this started after Wrestle Features shared a tweet asking, “If you were to book John Cena’s final match. Who would you book him against?”
Fans were quick to take note of this question and started sharing their opinions. A suggestion that caught everyone’s attention was to see John Cena retire along with WWE Hall of Famer Edge. Sharing this suggestion a fan wrote, “Edge. In a double retirement match at WrestleMania 40“.
People were eager to see The Leader of The Cenation put his career on the line against two of his biggest rivals. A person wrote, “Randy Orton or Edge. Career vs Career match“. One wanted him to end his career the exact way it kicked off, “John Cena vs kurt angle.. end it how it started“. Someone from the audience said, “Aj styles……. that was some of his best work“.
Looking at how fans have responded, it seems that they are heavily invested in seeing the 16-time champion end his career on a high note. A lot of fans want to see John fight against Edge, while some others want a triple-threat match, also involving Randy Orton. It remains to be seen if the Triple-H-led promotion will give fans what they desire or not.
John Cena hasn’t won a one-on-one match in 5 years
While the fans’ often complained about the Triple-H-led promotion, rarely giving losses to John Cena during his peak years in the Stamford-based promotion, it’s the absolute opposite now.
The Cenation Leader’s last victory in a singles match was back on April 27, 2018, during the Greatest Royal Rumble. At the event, John defeated Triple H, and it has been his only one-on-one match win in the last five years. The 16-time champion has won several other matches throughout this time period, but he hasn’t been able to come out on top in singles competition.
Since becoming a part-time performer, John has been used as a competitor to put over young superstars, and he has done the job brilliantly. In the last few years, the 16-time Champion has suffered losses at the hands of Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, and Austin Theory.
John Cena’s most recent appearance in the Stamford-based promotion was on July 1, 2023, as he made a surprise return at Money in the Bank. His return was interrupted by Grayson Waller, and as the youngster tried to attack Cena, the 16-time Champion gave him an Attitude Adjustment. This was the last time John was seen in WWE, and it remains to be seen when he will return to the Triple-H-led promotion.
