The Houston Rockets have recently revealed some interesting plans they have regarding the recruitment of Austin Reaves to their roster. As veteran NBA fans will recall, James Harden spent some of the best years of his career with the Rockets. In his prime, Harden and the Rockets were considered the only team capable of keeping up with the Kevin Durant-led Golden State Warriors.
Since Harden’s departure, the team has dropped down to being one of the worst across the entire league. There were reports that Harden could potentially reunite with the Rockets. However, the latest news about Austin Reaves seems to be in conflict with that. This has the potential to confuse Rockets fans who are eager to know what plans their team has. Therefore, we should take a closer look and find out.
The Houston Rockets want Austin Reaves if they are unable to land James Harden
It would appear that the Rockets are desperate for some change. As a result, they are making plans to go after Austin Reaves if they are unable to secure James Harden in the near future. Reaves is no Harden. But he has certainly proved himself as a legitimate star in the league via his performance this postseason. There is no denying that he brings a lot to the table for his team and has a high ceiling.
If the Rockets don’t land James Harden this summer, it’s believed they will go after the Lakers’ Austin Reaves, per @MikeAScotto.

However, Rockets fans who remember their earlier days with James Harden aren’t exactly impressed with this report, “Crazy Downgrade” said one fan. Others also pointed out the Lakers would be unwilling to let go of Reaves and would match whatever offer the Rockets sent his way. Some also made it clear that a move for Reaves wouldn’t really change the situation for their team all that much.
Crazy downgrade

If the Lakers let this dude leave, I’m done.

They need MUCH more than that. Trade that pick and Green for a Proven Veteran then sign someone nice in Free Agency

People will find out he’s nothing more than a glorified role player

While it is very difficult to claim that Reaves can turn a 22-win team into a contender, no one can say for certain that an aging James Harden can accomplish the same. It looks like Houston will have to gaze into the future and strike gold in the draft. Or they could just make incredible offers to the Lakers for Reaves and hope that Los Angeles is unable to match it. In any case, we are sure to find out before the beginning of the 2023-2023 NBA season.
