SUMMARY
- The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is not yet official for WrestleMania 40.
- #WeWantCody trended as the WWE universe hopes to see Cody Rhodes face Reigns instead of The Rock.
WWE is in turmoil as fans are not on board with Cody Rhodes being snubbed for The Rock vs Roman Reigns battle at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes won the Royal Rumble 2024 event. It was a second consecutive win as he was the last man in the ring in 2023 as well. He was expected to choose to fight Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal title.
However, on WWE SmackDown, Rhodes claimed he would not face Reigns. The Rock made an appearance soon after making it clear why Rhodes would do so.
The setup was received with extraordinary backlash. The YouTube video of The Rock’s interaction with Reigns was met with an unwanted record. It became the most disliked WWE YouTube video with over 500,000 dislikes. Moreover, fans made their feelings known with #WeWantCody trending.

WWE commentator Michael Cole quickly mentioned the trend and the latest development. Cole announced twice that the fight between The Rock and Reigns was not official. He asked fans to tune in on the press event on Thursday to find out the official news. It is unknown if the WWE is keeping time handy to be able to make a U-turn or if this was the plan all along.
Cody Rhodes asks fans to keep faith in him
Rhodes has faced both Rollins and Reigns in the past few years at WrestleMania. He got the better of Rollins at WrestleMania 38. However, after winning the Royal Rumble 2023, Rhodes chose to face Reigns and was defeated at WrestleMania 39.
As of now, it is still a wild guess as to who he would choose for WrestleMania 40. With The Rock back in the scene, it is believed that Rhodes will be forced to choose Rollins. However, fans do not want that to happen.
Appreciate the passion, God bless y’all
…but
Trust me
— Cody Rhodes (@CodyRhodes) February 6, 2024
After the latest Monday Night RAW episode, Rhodes took to X to reassure fans. He wrote, “Appreciate the passion, God bless y’all but trust me.”
According to Dave Meltzer, The Rock and Reigns fight was part of Dwayne Johnson’s deal to join the TKO Board of Directors. The deal was signed early in January although it was announced later. It is difficult to decipher why Rhodes was made to win the Royal Rumble 2024. However, Meltzer did say there was a chance of a triple-threat match as well.
Triple H supports NFL star George Kittle’s recycled idea of how the WrestleMania 40 showdown should be
San Francisco 49ers tight-end George Kittle is a wrestling fan through and through. In a press event, he explained something he read online and agreed to. According to Kittle, WWE should make the story fun and interesting.
“Everyone’s talking about ‘We want Cody.’ Or it’s Roman and The Rock… Honestly my dream would it to be like kind of a setup. I saw this online, Roman shows up, signs a contract. Cody’s on the other side. The Rock referees,” he said.
“Wouldn’t that be fun and special? Let’s make it fun and interesting. Now, it’s not my own idea, but I thought it was really cool.”
The People’s Tight End knows what’s up… @gkittle46 https://t.co/M98rhfPAR3
— Triple H (@TripleH) February 6, 2024
Triple H seemed to have liked the idea. He reposted Kittle’s interview and captioned it, “The People’s Tight End knows what’s up.”
Could Triple H be referring to an acceptance of the idea? Will The Rock take a backseat and referee the fight between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns? We should find that out this Thursday.
