SUMMARY
- Bronny James has been averaging 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in college.
- A former NBA executive claims that Bronny's playstyle could be compared to NBA star Gary Harris.
A former NBA executive and member of the media recently made an interesting claim about Bronny James‘ potential and ceiling. The basketball community must certainly already be aware that Bronny is the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and is currently playing college basketball for the USC Trojans.
Since King James has expressed a desire to share the court with his son one day, Bronny making it to the NBA has been a great deal of interest and debate in the NBA world. With that being said, one might want to know more about Bronny’s ceiling and what kind of player he has been compared to.
John Hollinger opines that Bronny James’ play could be optimistically compared to Gary Harris
Although NBA fans would love to see Bronny James turn into a star that could earn comparison to his father LeBron, his performance so far in college has been subpar, to say the least. In the 18 games Bronny has played for the USC Trojans, he has averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. Additionally, he has only made 36.5% of his field goal attempts and 27.5% of his three-point attempts.
“Hollinger noted Bronny’s strong frame and feel for the game as positives…But he also noted how the USC freshman, as all the stats and game film show, struggles to score consistently at any level right now. Hollinger suggested that Bronny’s upside might eventually be akin to that of Gary Harris.”

Since Bronny is averaging less than 6 points per game, claiming that he struggles to score consistently is a fair deduction. However, Hollinger viewed Bronny positively and even compared him to another NBA star called Gary Harris.
Gary Harris was selected with the 19th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft
Garry Harris is listed at 6’4 and has been in the NBA for almost a decade now. Given that his height and position on the court are identical to Bronny’s perhaps a comparison between the two of them is justified. Harris came into the NBA with the 19th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft and began his career with the Denver Nuggets. He was with the team for 7 seasons before being traded to the Orlando Magic.
Therefore, James Jr. has his work cut out for him and will have to step up his game if he wishes to be a top 20 pick in the future NBA Draft. Fans are left wondering if he will even come close to his father in terms of greatness and legacy in the NBA.
