Ryan Garcia is on top of the world following his latest win. Capping off a career-highlight performance against Devin Haney, Garcia is once again the talk of the boxing world. With him now firmly in the driving seat once again, it opens the door for many interesting matchups and perhaps even some rematches.
For those unaware, Ryan Garcia was on demolition duty in his fight against Devin Haney. Despite being a massive underdog coming in, Garcia nearly stopped Haney on three occasions and likely would have had the referee not intervened. That said, the 25-year-old proved a lot of people wrong for having doubted him as being mentally unfit to fight.
Since the win, Garcia has gone on to reveal how he elaborately planned his promotional stunts in order to garner a lot of attention and at the same time, throw off many, including his opponent. All things considered, the resounding victory, despite being a majority decision on paper. has done a lot of good for Garcia and his future fight prospects.
Ryan Garcia speaks about dehydrating himself for the Gervonta Davis fight
Coming into the Devin Haney fight, one of the big talking points was around Ryan Garcia missing weight. With the contest set at 140 lbs, Garcia came in at 143, thus missing the chance to get Haney’s WBC Super Lightweight title, and had to pay out $1.5 million in order to keep the fight going. At the same time, he reportedly bet $2 million on himself, which paid out to a massive $12 million after his win.
Speaking on the PBD podcast with Patrick Bet-David, Ryan revealed how he was able to rehydrate to 155-160 lbs on fight night. Further, he also spoke about how severely dehydrated he was in comparison, to the Gervonta Davis fight last year, owing to a rehydration clause.
“So basically when I made weight and cut all that weight and basically killed myself, I can’t gain more than 10lbs which is very hard in itself not to gain more than 10lbs after cutting so much weight. So he (Davis) pretty much handicapped me, to basically be dehydrated in the ring.”
“That’s the worst rule you could put on somebody. You could kill somebody like that. Your brain needs to have hydration, your brain is the last thing to rehydrate, or so I heard.”
On the other hand, owing to no rehydration clause for the Haney fight, Ryan Garcia was a much more fuller and filled-out version of himself. Notably, immediately after his fight, fans pointed out the stark difference in Ryan’s physique for both fights. Moving forward, the fighter claims that he will only be fighting at 143 lbs or more.
Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis’ situation after the Devin Haney fight
Interestingly, there was a lot of talk regarding Gervonta Davis after Ryan Garcia beat Devin Haney. Physique comparisons aside, Ryan’s latest win had the fans wondering what would happen if ‘KingRy’ fought Davis at the same weight as Haney in a rematch. However, Davis momentarily threw a spanner in the works after congratulating Garcia and slamming Haney and his father.
Not only that but, ‘Tank’ also offered to join Ryan at the club for his post-fight celebrations and even offered to have everything on him and give him his real phone number. That said, Garcia saw the message as a means for Davis to get the attention on himself, and get clout off of Ryan’s win. As such, Ryan also believes that Tank is now scared to rematch him, but will push for it regardless.
Everyone wanna talk about the little

Keeping with what he and Oscar De La Hoya said in the post-fight press conference, a rematch against Tank Davis, should it happen, will take place at 144 lbs and without any rehydration clause. Seeing that Davis is set to face Frank Martin next, the discussions for the fight are expected to begin shortly afterward. In the meantime, Ryan also has a whole host of other suitors ready to fight him next.
