Devin Haney endured a difficult weekend with his loss to Ryan Garcia in what was a blockbuster boxing match. Despite the loss, Devin has all the love, support, and confidence of his father, Bill Haney, who has often been a controversial character in the boxing world. That said, he has seemingly found Floyd Mayweather to be an outlet for his aggression.
For the most part, it is no secret that Bill Haney is not fond of Floyd Mayweather. Despite Floyd being Devin’s former mentor, Bill has never respected the boxing legend. Instead, the elder Haney has always claimed that Devin is on his way to becoming a greater boxer than Mayweather ever was. As such, he has often thrown dirt on ‘TBE (The Best Ever)’ and his accomplishments.
Claiming that Devin was already a bigger star than Floyd was at 25, Bill faced a crushing defeat as he watched his son cling on for dear life against Ryan Garcia. Naturally, he was dismayed by the outcome, especially after promising that Devin would send Garcia to the hospital. On the night, it seemed as though the opposite was the case, with unconfirmed reports of Haney suffering a broken jaw.
Bill Haney lashed out at Floyd Mayweather on an Instagram live
Recently, the pair came face to face for the first time in a long while with Floyd Mayweather questioning why Bill Haney had problems with him. According to Floyd, he was on good terms with all the parties involved in the recent fight, although he had been working with Ryan Garcia to help him choose his next fight. As Garcia had revealed, Floyd suggested that he should fight Rolly Romero first and then Devin Haney.
However, as Bill reveals, his hatred for Floyd stems from a different reason entirely. Whilst their conversation started off on a somber note, it was the elder Haney who seemingly exploded onto Mayweather later on. Notably, Bill accused Floyd of hating on him for the progress he was able to make with Devin, turning him into an undisputed champion.
Additionally, he brought up Devin’s sparring match with Floyd, to which ‘Money’ had a brutal response.
“Congratulations on you having an undefeated fighter in the gym. But I am undefeated under the lights. Is your fighter undefeated under the lights?”
With Devin losing to Ryan Garcia over the weekend, Floyd cheekily extended a helping hand, “You need some help? He needed help the other night.”
In his response, Bill blasted Mayweather saying, “You know what time it is with me when I see you. The Haney business will be continuing, have I ever needed your help with anything? Your son needs help tonight not the other night, you bald a** hurt man. My son needs me, tomorrow today and every day. We don’t need you for dog s***.”
In his response, an irked Bill Haney tried to ring down Floyd’s accomplishments by saying, “You’re a bulls***-ass n***a… F*** your 50-0, that s*** don’t mean nothing”. Not only that but he also accused Mayweather of fighting nobodies to pad his record. Thereafter the argument shifted to the handling of their kids, where Haney believes he is doing a better job than Floyd.
How did Bill Haney and Floyd Mayweather’s feud start?
For the most part, some would suggest that Bill Haney and Floyd Mayweather’s feud truly started in the build-up to the Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney fight. As mentioned previously, despite Floyd’s counsel, Ryan opted to fight Haney and challenge for his WBC Super Lightweight title. Although the fight went ahead and Ryan emerged victorious, he was unable to capture the title, having missed weight for the fight.
In the buildup to the fight, Garcia claimed to have seen sparring footage between Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney, wherein the latter was supposedly struggling. Moreover, the boxer claimed that Floyd Mayweather was the one that had shown him the clip. When asked about it in the media, an infuriated Bill Haney diverted the topic to Floyd’s spar against Devin, which supposedly took place before the Conor McGregor fight in 2017.
Bill Haney on Floyd Mayweather showing Ryan Garcia sparring footage of Gervonta Davis vs Devin Haney: “He should’ve showed the sparring video of himself and Devin. It was 6-0, it wasn’t close. It was like Floyd was looking in the mirror. This was before the Conor McGregor fight… pic.twitter.com/P7TT98XAbu

According to Bill, Devin outboxed Floyd 6-0 and made it seem like he was looking into the mirror. Further, he went on to make the bold claim that Devin was the one that forced Floyd Mayweather into retirement. Although he has yet to comment on it, Floyd is rarely known to take criticism against him lightly. That said, Floyd and Bill will seemingly continue their conversations in private as hinted by the end of their interaction on the Instagram live.
