A streak of bad luck seems to be following Michael Jordan during his position as a majority owner. As some NBA fans might be aware, the Chicago Bulls legend was able to find enough success on the court and through endorsements that he was able to purchase the Charlotte Hornets.
Since his team hasn’t been in postseason contention much throughout his tenure as owner, he was certainly looking for some change and franchise-inspiring talent. However, things have not really turned his way after the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery. Let us take a better look and find out how MJ has lost out.
Michael Jordan missed securing Victor Wembanyama during the 2023 NBA Draft lottery
It has been quite a bad season for the Hornets. Not only did they lose their star player in LaMelo Ball for the majority of this season, but they also finished with a subpar record of 27 wins and 55 losses. That would make them one of the 4 worst teams in the entire NBA alongside the Pistons, Spurs, and Rockets.
The NBA draft lottery is today!

The only good news would be that their odds of securing the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft would be quite high. This would be an ideal situation for the Hornets provided they were able to win the NBA Draft lottery. After all, pairing up young stars like LaMelo Ball and Victor Wembanyama would undoubtedly turn the Hornets into contenders.
However, luck has not been on MJ’s side. The Hornets ended up with the second pick after having lost the first to the San Antonio Spurs. That would mean the Spurs have the first pick in the draft and would most likely choose Wemby. On the other hand, the Hornets will now be looking to secure Scoot Henderson or some of the other top picks in the draft class.

Since Victor Wembanyama has been hyped up as a generational talent, analysts have argued that his mere presence would increase the financial revenue of a franchise. The reports estimate that he would boost the net worth of a team by $497 million.

As a result of this, we can claim that Jordan missed out on yet another tremendous opportunity to revolutionize his team. Hopefully, Scoot Henderson is still able to develop and carry the team back into relevance.
