SUMMARY
- Kelsey Plum was drafted by the San Antonio Stars in 2017.
- Kelsey Plum was born in Poway, California, to parents Katie and Jim Plum.
Kelsey Christine Plum has been an American professional basketball player for the Women’s National Basketball Association since 2017. ‘KP’ was drafted in the WNBA in 2017 by the San Antonio Stars and has since amassed many accolades. Coincidentally, along with Plum, Markelle Fultz was also drafted as the first pick, and both hail from the same university and the same year.
Plum was an active basketball alumnus of the Washington Huskies women’s basketball back in 2013. As a freshman, she stood out in the eyes of her head coach, Mike Neighbors, and hence gave her illustrious career a great boost. Furthermore, she set six Washington freshman records. Scoring the highest points scored by a freshman, she amassed 695 points in her first year at the University of Washington.

Not only that, she maintained a pretty amazing career trajectory all through her NCAA basketball days. From making it to the ‘Wade Watch’ list in her sophomore year to setting a new school record with 45 points, she led her way to the WNBA. She even transitioned from his playing career to that of a graduate assistant coach in 2020. The 29-year-old two-time WNBA champion has made a name for herself, it seems.
Kelsey Plum was born in Poway, California
‘Plum Dawg’ was born to Katie and Jim Plum. Hailing from a family of accomplished athletes, Kelsey seems to carry forward the torch. Her mother, Katie Plum, was an accomplished volleyball player for the University of California, Davis. And her father, Jim Plum, was a collegiate-level football player who earned All-American honors.
Born in Poway, California, she has two older sisters and a younger brother. As queer as it may seem, her older sisters went on to pursue the sport once played by her mother, while the younger sibling followed in her father’s footsteps. While her eldest sister, Caitlyn, is making headlines day in and day out for her brilliant gameplay, Kelsey is searching for new ways to maintain her serious on-court attitude and stone-cold moves.
Kelsey Plum belongs to a Caucasian ethnicity
The WNBA sixth player of the year (2021) comes from a Caucasian background. Since the leading lady of the Las Vegas Aces has a European heritage, the Caucasian ethnicity makes sense. In March 2023, the Aces’ point guard jumped the broom with New York Giants tight end Darren Waller.

In 2022, she even won the WNBA All-Star MVP and set new records for her professional career in the WNBA. The star guard has been sweeping awards since 2013 and doesn’t seem to stop anytime soon.
