Brittney Griner is one of the most famous WNBA players of the current generation. She has cemented her status as one of the league’s greats despite only having one WNBA title to her name. This was one of the reasons why her arrest in Russia received plenty of backlash from Americans. However, after multiple efforts, the Phoenix Mercury star was brought home.

Her release brought plenty of attention, as the world questioned her every move, even if they were made decades ago. This was certainly the case with her comments about the US national anthem, which later came to haunt her after the release. Another example of that would be a question raised by fans; was Brittney born a man? Fans even went to the extent of editing a beard onto BG’s face in an image.
It is no secret that Griner’s sexuality has come under heavy scrutiny. It remains a huge question mark as fans still ponder how things were in Brittney’s childhood.
Is Brittney Griner transgender?
The direct answer to that question is that Brittney is not transgender, meaning she was born as a female. She identified herself as a homosexual female and came out a long time ago. Her parents, Raymond and Sandra, were quite the opposites. Brittney knew that Raymond would certainly reject her gender choices and would not entertain any attempts by Brittney to come out. However, the young Brittney did so, knowing what type of reaction she would get from her dad.
The now-WNBA star had to face various obstacles during her early life, mainly because of her appearance and sexuality. Moreover, her low and deep voice did not do her any favors when it came to receiving it from the bullies. It is astonishing to see that Brittney did not have a pillar of support at the time, except her mother and friends.

Raymond Griner rejected his daughter and Brittney became distant from her dad. She was once the “golden child” but it all turned upside down after she came out and claimed she was homosexual. Raymond had a violent reaction once he found out and even kicked Brittney out. Although they had their fair share of drama, Raymond eventually accepted his daughter later on.
